Solve a marital dispute: whose job is it to clean the washing machine?

DH and I separate chores into your job/my job. This works for us. We have daily and weekly jobs.

One of my jobs is the washing, and one of his jobs is cleaning the kitchen. We share the day-to-day wiping down of surfaces, but the proper weekly clean is up to him.

He thinks that because I do the washing, cleaning the machine is my job. But I think that because the washing machine is in the kitchen, it's his job. Also I do the cleaning of the inside - run vinegar through it etc - so I think wiping down the door and the bit that sticks out from under the counter is in his domain.

Who is right? YOU DECIDE! Please note that our marriage does not revolve around domestic minutiae and the ongoing dispute is more of an eye-rolling joke than a symbol of irretrievable relationship breakdown.

Isabeller that's the dream! Wink

Deep I am 33. I promise I am quite chilled! I do have mild OCD which manifests as liking things in a routine but I don't run around with a bleach gun and a stopwatch or anything Grin

blithereens- good luck with family life- you will have a paradigm shift however.

I too was confused by the phrase 'cleaning your washing machine' - not something I've ever done if you are talking about somehow cleaning inside of it.
However, wiping splashes or drips off the door is the same as wiping the cupboard doors or the oven door, so it obviously the job of the person who does those.

Sycamoretrees · 21/06/2014 17:49

Who cleans the oven? The person who cooks, the person who cleans the kitchen or the person who eats the cooked food? Tricky.

deepbluetr · 21/06/2014 17:51

Sycamoretrees- is there a need for such delineation?

LIZS · 21/06/2014 17:52

How often do you clean it and how often does it need the outside wiping? Confused I vinegar the drawer about once very 6-8 weeks and rinse out the residual powder as and when.

Sycamore trees - that's a trick question!!!

You have the much vaunted WE need to clean the oven conversation, which doesn't happen, then either the oven breaks, the MIL visits and does it out of despair or you pay a miricle worker to clean it.

Sycamoretrees · 21/06/2014 21:13

deepbluetr maybe, maybe not. The OPs wasn't asking if the system was a good one.

Timeforabiscuit I like your style!
