Help!!! I seem to have got carpet beetles munching my stair carpet and leaving bald patches. Any ideas on what is the best way to get rid if them? Thanks

Traditional treatment is borax. It's non-toxic but you should vacuum it off the carpet after a couple of hours, as it can bleach them. I found this thread for you - haven't read it all, as it's long, but I'm sure there will be other tips.

you are very unlikely to be able to buy real borax for household use, although it is sometimes used industrially. Look up "birth defects" in the hazard warnings.

you can get a substitute which I believe is intended for laundry. I do not know if it kills insects. Anything that kills insects is of course toxic, otherwise it would not kill them.

You can also buy modern insecticides.

You must also vacuum a lot, preferably using an upright with beaters, and a hose round the edges where they like to climb under the join with the skirting.
