Damn pesky flies!

Now the warmer days are here and we have the windows open, horrible big black flies keep flying into the house, buzzing around, trying to find their way out I hope.

Don't want to put nets on the windows and doors or to sit in a stifling house, but how can we get rid?

I've heard of vinegar/honey traps but thought they were for fruit flies? Any non-chemically ideas?

You could get a dangly curtain thing to put in doorways. We had one last year but haven't put it up this summer as I'm fairly certain it wouldn't last five mins with my toddler?

We have the same and it is driving me bonkers. Yesterday was particularly bad so I sprayed them wit air freshner as the only thing I had.

We have fly paper up but although there's a few stuck to it it's not that effective unless they actually fly into it and looks grim.

I have had a crackdown an. No food / debris left anywhere, dog is getting fed outside and bowl washed straight away.

I'm watching this with interest!

A fly swatter is hepful and you get great satisfaction when they fall down dead.

Don't quote me because I have'nt yet tried this but I read on facebook that if you fill a clear sandwhich bag with water and drop a copper penny in and then hang it up outside, the reflection looks like a massive fly eye and it scares them off.

But wouldn't you have to hang the bags at each open window and door?

I couldn't hang anything on the door for the same reason beccajoh!

Might give the vinegar trp a try...
