Has anyone had a cast iron bath resurfaced or re enamelled?

If so was it worth it and what did it cost. We have a great long one which weighs a ton and would be a nightmare to move so are looking into having this done.

My Sister (kid) had this done to her bath a few year ago, will try and get her attention to this thread so she can tell you more!

yes - it cost a fortune, lasted 3 years and has now started to peel off The company that did it are no longer trading.

Gingerbear · 04/09/2006 23:11

I think it was about £190

We are just looking into this at the moment, we've seen some fab ones at salvage yards lately. We've found two places that do it, both around £500 a pop. I rather suspect you would have to take the bath to them to do it though.

Actually - just thinkiing - that is for a full re-enamel, I've heard some people mention that you can "spot" re-enamel thm, though haven't looked further into it.

Am getting my done free, courtesy of the Council. There are some good things come out of living in a council house.

It is the whole thing that needs doing as we want it to be white rather than the quite sickly yellow/green colour it is at the moment!

We got our whole bath re enamled for £230 and i say it was worth every penny looks really nice and i would definately recommend it. i had my heart set on new bath but decided to re enamel and i'm glad we did.
ps that was 3 years ago and still looks as new

Watching this with interest as ours needs doing too. HooHoo can you remember who did it?

I re-enamelled my own cast iron bath, we paid around £30 for the kit and I completed it within 2 days (had to leave it X amount of hours to dry between coats)
It was a complete nightmare to do, but it looked so much better. There is alot of preparation to the bath, cleaning and sanding it, but it was worth the effort. Our bath was still fine 3 years after having it done, but then we moved so I don't know how much longer it lasted.
