Leaving washing outside overnight

I've just got around to putting some washing out, and realise it probably won't get dry this evening. It's only sheets, pillowcases etc, ( plus some other bits and bobs)so I could tumble dry them, but that seems a real waste in this glorious weather. I can't really be bothered to get them in and hang them out again tomorrow.

Is is really slovenly to leave them out, or practical? Hands up - who would leave the washing out, and who would bring it in?

The only problem with leaving it outside is: spiders or rain.

Traditionally old fashioned views are that it is slovenly practice but let's be practical here. It is summer after all!

Leave it out if its not likely to rain. Spiders can get in your washing in the daytime anyway.

Don't leave it out if you have batty visitors to your garden! Bat poo is poo like no other!

earwigs, too, if under trees.
I leave ours out occasionally, no regrets.

Even if it rains, it dries again and washing that's been rained on smells even better.

are you in the UK? If so spiders are not an issue.

If it's sunny now, I'd be very surprised if it's not dry before you go to bed. Unless you go to bed at 6pm.

Even if it's not totally dry when you bring it in, I bet 5 minutes in the dryer will sort it later.

I hung out a dark purple duvet cover this morning and, no word of a lie, it was dry in 10 minutes.

I'm just about to hang some out that I won't have time to put out in the morning.

Forecast rain here (well, it started an hour or so ago) so I'd just bung it in the tumble drier.

I hate washing being left out over night but my old irish neighbour hangs hers out in the evening and brings it all in the morning??
Desperate to ask why? is it an Irish thing?

It's not an Irish thing. It's just daft.
I hate the smell of clothes that have been left out in the rain..

My garden is fairly shady in the evening which us why i didn't't think it would dry. However, I went to check it and it has dried, apart from the odd bit.

I often leave mine out for days.
It will either dry eventually, or you will have to give in and drag a saoking wet heap back in.
I work full time and cannot be on hand to monitor the washing so it often gets rained on. Nobody died yet.

I've left mine out tonight. It's sunny here tomorrow, any dew dampness will soon dry off.

There's nothing wrong with hanging out washing in the evening & leaving it overnight. I do it all the time as I don't have time in the morning. It's just a practical thing. I can't think why it would be seen as slovenly.

If you have white laundry out, moths are attract to white and you may bring them into the house.

for me it's not to do with moths or spiders,it just seems lazy!

I'm with dementedma mine regularly stays out through the rain! No tumble drier so everything is hung out! Can't understand this obsession with spiders, earwigs and moths getting in it?! Do people not open their windows in the summer-you get a massive influx of beasties then!

Yes - leave windows open and end up with holy jumpers!
