since the weather has been improved and the washing isn't beingg tumble dried it's like cardboard clothes!

We use bold 2 in 1 as I love the fragrance. do I need to be adding normal conditioner as well? which I'm assuming will take away the lovely smell of the bold?

I put a little white vinegar in the rinse to get the residue of the powder out.
I hate fabric conditioner with a passion and never use it. It's totally unnecessary and smells so strong.

I love crunchy washing and hate tumble dried clothes. HATE them! All floppy and useless they are. It absolutely pains me when I have to use my tumble drier in emergencies.

Comfort Pure fabric conditioner has a very gentle smell and probably won't mask the smell of your Bold.

omg why on earth do you love crunchy washing?! It's horrible! I have just washed all the newborn clothes ready for baby due very soon and wishing I had tumbled them or something because now they are nowhere near as nice and soft :-(

Me too. If it's stiff, you know it's clean. I like rough towels, and fabric conditioner is a very profitable scam.

I don't get that logic - washing powder residue can make things stiff.

When people use white vinegar... Do they mean the white distilled kind that is also good for cleaning? If so... Doesn't it make your clothes smell like a chip shop?!

Mine aren't crunchy (washed in hard water, no conditioner and line dried). they've just got a bit of body. I much prefer them to floppy tumble dried clothes.

Wowfudge - I don't like to think that stuff hasn't been rinsed properly - that's one of my pet peeves - but adding fabric conditioner seems to me to be adding more fake stuff that doesn't get rinsed out.

yep the really white plain distilled kind, not the brown malt kind, and it rinses out. if your washing machine won't do a rinse cycle it might be trickier.

I always use the aqua plus option on my washing machine to make sure everything is properly rinsed out (this means a 40 or 60 deg cottons wash takes nearly 3 hours) but then I line dry them to a crisp. Lovely.

You people are odd. Why would you like hard rough crunchy towels over soft fluffy ones?

If I want to take the edge off the hardness I line dry until they are 90% dry then give them a few mins in the tumble drier. Also you need to bloody iron line dried stuff.

You get a nice brisk rub down with a line dried towel. DM has soft fluffy towels and they don't seem to dry you as well.

Same as fukeit line dry then a quick tumble dry to soften them. No ironing needed for the majority of stuff. DH loves a crunchy towel so his are left to stand in their own stiffness.

I put everything in the tumble dryer for 5 minutes and then peg it out.

I have lots of nice fluffy towels that I eschew for cheapo thin, crunchy ones for myself.

I just cant seem to get dried properly with fluffy towels.I get a good rubbing down and feel really clean .

I love a crispy towel. But for the DCs clothes I poor extra water in the drawer while the clothes are rinsing.

I tumble dry all year round precisely because I hate crunchy washing.

I may have to give the vinegar tip a try!

I feel The Guilt using the tumble dryer when it's nice outside, so using it for 5 minutes gets the clothes soft and keeps the guilt to acceptable levels.
In fact I do this all year round - ceiling pulley when it's wet.

I use the TD for most things most of the time. The opportunities to line dry are few and far between and I don't want a load of crispy stuff that needs ironing.

Mrsbaboo - my comment had nothing to do with fabric conditioner. You get crunchy washing even if you do use fc when you line dry it until it's been baked and/or windswept dry.

I do not understand why you would equate crunchy with clean - doesn't follow. It could just as easily mean that the soap hasn't been washed out properly.

I don't feel any guilt about tumble drying - life is too short to spend hours pegging it all out, hauling it in and out in response to the weather, having a home full of damp washing and spending hours ironing or wearing clothes that clearly need ironing! TD solves all of that.

Crunchy towels have the added bonus of being a good exfoliator!

We don't use conditioner, DCs and I are allergic to it but started using distilled white vinegar in the wash to try and battle the grim smell coming from my machine. It's worked against the smell with the added benefit of non-crunchy washing.

How much vinegar do you put in?
