Steam cleaners

Can you use steam cleaners on natural stone? I have travertine and limestone tiles in a few rooms.

Also, in our kitchen we have "high gloss" kitchen units so if we steam cleaned right next to them to wash the floor would there be any risk of damaging the kitchen units? I'm just wondering whether the heat would cause them to melt!
