Another dishwasher tab question, cloudy glasses?

I tend to buy whatever is on offer but have noticed my glasses getting cloudy and sometimes scratched. Is this something that always happens or am I doing something wrong? Soft water area if that makes a difference.

it could be limescale build up - does it come off if you soak it in vinegar? or it could be etching of the glass which is permanent and cannot be removed. Make sure the glasses are dishwasher safe.

Thanks, I will try the vinegar thing. If it is lime scale how do I stop this reoccurring?

We recently had the same problem. We ran a finish dishwasher cleaner through and then made sure we used salt and rinse aid. Result is sparkling glasses and cutlery again!

Despite most tablets saying they are complete, I still find that you need to add salt and rinse aid even with the most expensive tablets.

Yep, you may get away with less rinse aid, but you still need some. We always need salt as our water is far harder than all in one tablets can cope with.

Oh good, salt question. How do you know how much to use? I have just noticed my glasses going cloudy again and the salt usually helps but I think sometimes I over-fill it.

I dont think you can overfill it. Fill it to the top each time (thats what I do anyway)

Oh, it is just that when I did it once everything tasted of salt until I used it about 4 times.

Yes, I tried that Piglet, but it was on firmly and correctly. I now put less in and fill up more. Maybe I spilled some in the back and it didn't rinse out?

Keep the salt topped up and bung vinegar in there every week or so. Works in my high limescale area.

You should be able to adjust the softener to suit the hardness of the water. Older Bosch and similar have a tiny blue dial in the top left corner of the doorframe.

Instructions are in the instruction book which you can download from the manufacturer's website. Model and serial number are usually engraved on the top edge of the door. Make a note of them before they get worn away.

I have had the dishwasher for 2 years since we got the kitchen done and I have never used salt or rinse aid. I daftly thought the all in ones meant I didn't need to.

I'm going to have to look and see where these even go in the machine.

salt normally goes in a bit on the floor of the machine. You unscrew it, add dishwasher salt and then screw the lid back on. My rinse aid bit is on the door of the machine next to where you put the tablet. Mine is a flip top one but some have screw on lids. Salt in the tablets dont activate the softener in the machine so you get better results by adding extra salt.
