Shoes: how do you store them?

We are a family of six.

That's a lot of shoes knocking about.

I'm seriously considering some of these to put them all on.

And I think they might work well for bedlinen and towels too.

But before I buy, I was wondering if anyone else had ingenious solutions.

We have two of those cheap IKEA shoe shelves screwed together. One shelf each (piled quite precariously I must add). But there is only four of us. And then out of season footwear, wellies, hiking boots etc. on another set of shelves in the cupboard under the stairs. Piled even more precariously.

It's not a great method, but it kind of works. I seem to spend an annoying amount of time shoving the shoes back in after the kids have rummaged through for theirs though...

it's useful to have racks that are about shoe-sized, to prevent them being over-crammed so you can't find anything.

We have a wine rack that came with some kitchen units, each compartment is a good size for a pair of shoes. boots don't fit.

I have seen wooden rods (think "chapel hat pegs") projecting from the wall, this was in a place where the people had wet wellies, and they were poked onto the pegs to dry out and air.
