this is a long shot but hopefully someone will help i have stripped a bit of wallpaper down by the front window. underneath i have found some damp patches (black mould) and some small cracks. does anyone know

  1. what i can use to get the small pieces of backing paper off.
  2. whether i can do anything to stop the damp.
  3. can i just paint over what's under or do i have to replaster it?

i've started something and have no clue how to finish it.

You can get some special stuff to clean and seal the damp. International Paints do Stain Seal Spray which you can then paint over for example. Use Sugar soap first to remove the worst of it and then see what condition the wall is in. Do make sure the source is tackled too or it will eventually show through again.

The actual one I used for paintwork was called Stain Block Aerosol.

Scrub the whole lot with water and some kind of bleach/teatree household cleaner so you can scrape off the little bits easier (fish slice is good.)
