whatever substance you choose to pur down there, you are also going to have to don rubber gloves and scrub too....

trinityrhino · 30/08/2006 12:30

it's limescale, you need a heavy duty limescale remover, I managed to find some ttablets that you put into the loo bowl and they fizz like mad and then you leave them for a few hours and then scrub toilet, it helped alot, i put 2 in instead of one, cause it was manky andthen I cleanded toilet alot in the next few days with strong cleaner and it's almost all gone, stilkll have a bit of bother with the waterline bit

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 30/08/2006 12:32

TR - where can i get these tablets?! I need some!!!

Try coke and failing that shifting the majority I'm afraid Jessajam is right, you're gonna have to get you're hands dirty (metaphorically speaking).

southeastastra · 30/08/2006 17:23

empty out the water first and it'll work quicker

tortoise · 30/08/2006 17:25

Push all the water out with loo brush 1st and use a strong 100% limescale remover.Leave as long as possible! Then scrub.
It make take a few times depending how bad it is.

misdee · 30/08/2006 17:26

was going to suggest removing the water as well, the harpic limescale remover (blue bottle) loads of it, leave for 30mins then scrub.

LIZS · 30/08/2006 17:29

Harpic Power Tablets left overnight or lots of white household vinegar.

TooTicky · 30/08/2006 17:29

Try Urtekram toilet cleaner - from health food shops, really works, made by a danish company who power their factory with wind and hay. How cool is that? Failing that, I think you can do it with vinegar.

mummy23 · 30/08/2006 17:33

I always use flat coke, its the best and cheapest thing to use but you have to leave it down the loo for at least 30 minutes so it can remove the crap that lurks down there
HTH

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 30/08/2006 21:21

How does anyone have Coke long enough to let it go falt? Suppose I could buy Happy Shopper brand...

crazydazy · 30/08/2006 21:36

Does Bicarb work down the loo?

Am going to stick some descaler down it tonight.

longwaytogo · 30/08/2006 22:30

I bought a cheap bottle of coke for this purpose the other week, put it down the toilet and left it overnight and it made it worse.

So what did I do wrong??

CountTo10 · 30/08/2006 22:40

I use viakal - pop it down let it soak and then scrub. Then I bleach and if its really bad I use that cilit bang stuff - but i always have to scrub!!!

MegaLegs · 30/08/2006 22:58

I think it has to be real coke - what is in that secret formular?

mummy23 · 31/08/2006 10:35

Yes, it has to be coco cola (the proper stuff), i have tried other fizzy drinks when they have gone flat and the toilet doesn't clean.

GL what ever you decide to try.

NotAnOtter · 31/08/2006 10:41

my loo never gets this - is it because our water is northern?

southeastastra · 31/08/2006 10:43

noanotter probably our south eastern water is as hard as phil mitchell

sorkycake · 31/08/2006 11:02

I live in the north and we have soft water too. The coke I believe is used fizzy, partly the acid and partly the carbonated water that lifts the stains, shoot me if I'm wrong tho'. Also people I know who have used it also said only Coke worked, bizarre!

flossieteacake · 31/08/2006 11:30

If you have any milton, pour a good couple of capfuls down, leave for as long as possible and then give it a good going with the loo brush - this ALWAYS works for me and my limey water! If not, I've seen the "how clean is your house" crew push the water over (as mentioned earlier) and using a pumice stone to get rid of the scum! Hope that helps

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 31/08/2006 19:48

Yup Southeast water is well'ard. We stayed in a cottage in Devon a couple of years ago and I thought the washing machine was going to explode in a sea of bubbles because I used the same amount of detergent I would at home. You lot up North must spend half as much as us on washing powder, soap, shampoo etc

MINNIE1 · 31/08/2006 20:49

I have this problem too so i am off to try the coke...It drives me mad looking at the loo with the horrible stain down the bottom.. I have tried bleech, toilet cleaner you name it and i cant remove it!

wannaBe1974 · 01/09/2006 16:46

wow if that's what coke does to your toilet doesn't it say a lot for what it does to your insides.

Lucybug · 02/09/2006 09:45

If anyone has a Lidl near them, their toilet cleaner is brilliant, it gets limescale off a treat (you do need to scrub it with the loo brush a bit too) Its called W5 Toilet Cleaner/Extra Strong ...its blue

DumbledoresGirl · 02/09/2006 10:15

How weird, I just had this conversation with my MIL yesterday. She swears by Viakal although I have yet to try it out.
