Bosch or Samsung American Style Fridge Freezer...

Anyone got any recommendations/suggestions? There are a lot of negative comments about Samsung, but the model gets great reviews on the review sites and on JL, so I'm 'hoping' that the old problems have been solved? Am I deluding myself? The Bosch one is the Which best buy - but it has no water/ice dispenser. I was thinking I'd probably live without one...I like the idea of filtered water but I'm worried I'd never get round to changing the filter. Again, any thoughts?

My current options are:

Bosch

Samsung

We have a Samsung American Fridge Freezer. It's now about 8 years old. Last year it started making a loud noise (fan?). So after googling, we realised that our model did have known problems. We defrosted it completely and left it off for 2 days. It's been fine since, but I do expect to have to do the defrost cycle again, the question is when/how often. I love our FF for space inside and sleek style, but I don't think the problems with it have been resolved. But I'm sure there will be others out there with a different experience.

As an aside, I noted your link was John Lewis. We got ours from Boots and therefore got advantage card points for it.

We have the Bosch, bought from comet 2 years ago (approx 3 weeks before they went into liquidation). The fridge and freezer are both absolutely brilliant, super efficient and always have even temperatures throughout. I love the temperature windiw on the front too.

my only gripe (quite an important one though) is the shelves in the door are really flimsy. One broke after a month , Comet where we bought it was no more at that point so I called Bosch directly and they refused to replace it and said I had to pay 40-odd quid for a replacement Angry I find this shocking as it broke really quickly, but they said the warranty doesnt cover shelves even after only 4 weeks use. Bosch (slippery f*ers) said my only recourse was the retailer (who obvs couldnt help, they didnt exist anymore). It has left me feeling very bitter towards Bosch and their after service, I could not buy from them again.

Whatever fridge you buy (but esp a Bosch one!) make sure you buy from a very respectable retailer (that is not about to collapse). If I'd bought the same fridge from JL I know I wouldn't have had this issue as JL would have sorted it

I have a Samsung that's very similar to your link. I've had it just over a year and am very happy with its performance so far.

I originally wanted one with a water dispenser but at the time I could only get the version that didn't have one. We don't miss it. I think it might have been a pain to maintain, anyway. The freezer compartment has an ice-cube maker and we use that a lot.

The Samsung fridge shelves are deep, so it's easy to lose things at the back, but there is a lot of space in there. The interior light is a column going down the back of the fridge, so you can see what's on each shelf easily. The freezer drawers are deep & roomy. It's very quiet compared to our old fridge freezer.

It also looks really good in the kitchen Smile

we have one of the original Samsungs.....had a deal of bother with it due to the known fault, which was not known at first iyswim.

the temperature difference and something to do with the heat exchange/fridge/freezer/frostfreemalarkey can cause ice to form on the cooling fan at the rear of the fridge which causes it to sound as if there is a large tractor with a dodgy exhaust trying to rev itself out from the back of the fridge.

Samsung were very good once they admitted the fault and came and got it fixed up pronto, but not before we had had TWO breakdowns and a mountain of the worst customer service ever from Comet. fucking shysters

It's been sound ever since the final fix, and I love it so, I have forgiven it.

We've had. Samsung one for over 8 years and never had any problems. I would really recommend getting the water/ice version and plumbing it in. Because the water is so nice we found we all drink far more water than we did before and it is much easier than Brita jugs etc.

We had this dilemma and DH persuaded me into getting the Samsung one. Well the water dispenser leaked straight away :( so I asked the shop if I could get a replacement Bosch instead (which I had wanted anyway) & the Bosch is fab. My previous Bosch fridge freezer lasted 12 years.

Never getting a Samsung again

For big purchases like this I choose the most effiecent model, it's on 24/7 and you can get models that use half the energy of competitors.

Samsung owner here.About 8 years old now,but we did have to get them out to perform major repairs to a known fault about 4 years ago which affected all models.

Also it has started to make the same loud whirring noise and freezing up as mentioned upthread,so I would steer clear.
