What kind of furniture will withstand.....

Sun, claws and mucky kids? I need new sofa or armchairs (seating) for an open plan sun room (like conservatory but solid roof). Original sofa was dark fabric and has faded badly been shredded by the cat and stained by god knows what spilt by children! I have been looking at wicker / rattan style furniture and can't decide if it will be tough enough for cat? (Although cat is older now and might not scratch as much?!!). Any experience or other suggestions would be much appreciated. Haven't even finished paying for first sofa and it looks awful, don't want to make another mistake!

I would't have thought that wicker furniture would be tough enough for a cat that scratches and I think whatever you buy is going to be susceptible to fading if you are getting the sun on the room all day. I know it's not to everyones taste, but have you considered throws? Or what about buying a sofa from Ikea that comes with covers, that way you can replace the covers when needed.

Thanks crafty. See I keep pulling at wicker sofas in garden centres and they seem quite hard/tough? Am I kidding myself? Will take a look at ikea - a good excuse for a trip for knick-knacks!
