Changing a Light Fitting?

HunieBunie · 25/08/2006 14:39

Should I get in an electrician or can I do it myself?

The guys in the office reckon it is not disimilar to changing a plug, but with only 2 wires, red (live) and black (neutral).

TIA

You can do it yourself - they're right, it's just 2 wires. If I can do it anyone can

Just remember to turn the electricity off before you do it...

Yes, that would be essential

I am off to HomeBase it's 10% day!

well done though someone told me on here at the weekend that it was illegal to do it yourself now!!?

TooTicky · 29/08/2006 11:35

So, how many mumsnetters does it take....

throckenholt · 29/08/2006 11:37

illegal to do it yourself now

don't think so - they are probably thinking of the new rules that only certified electricians can install electrical circuits now - so if you DIY your own wiring you need to have a qualified electrician certify it is safe for you - to meet building regs.

well we did it anyway (bathroom light) but the time i had the replies it was too late! i couldn't find much info through googling - i think maybe because i put the wire needed extending that may have been it.
