How do you store all your DC's trains and track etc?

We mostly keep some track out as DS plays with all the time but have quite a lot that ends up on the floor in a massive pile. Any ideas for a good storage solution that looks nice and easy for 2yo DS to help keep neat (i.e. not complicated lids etc).

Wicker basket

Two wicker baskets or plastic crates, possibly one big and one small.

It goes away much more neatly as is much easier to play with if you put track and trains separate. Otherwise all the track is poured out looking for the coal and the oil barrel - cargo for the magnetic crane.

excellent tip. What kind of wicker baskets are we talking? Sturdy or soft?

Expedit is your friend- get yourself to ikea. Agree with separate train/track boxes, also separate box for stations/level crossings etc. These will of course all be mixed up within a matter of days..sigh...

Expedit. I also culled all the random houses etc that ours came with, as no one ever played with them.

large plastic storage boxes. Also culled some extra bits that no one used. Track is in the large boxes, trains kept separately in smaller really useful boxes so can be played with separately without getting all the track out.

We have one of these ikea stuva bench but in white for all of the stations, bridges, windmill, clock tower, sheds etc that form DS1's enormous collection. He is 6yo and he has been a huge trains fan since his 2nd birthday, so we have a lot of it.

We keep the trains in one of these but in white. They stack, so we have trains in one, cars in another etc. You can write in chalk on the blackboard paint to label them GLTC wooden box

We keep all of the track in one of these which DFIL painted, as it contained a hamper of Christmas goodies as our Christmas present one year wooden box. I would have thought he bought it from somewhere like B&Q. You can get lids for them. It stays on the floor as the track is so heavy.
