Can anyone recommend a mattress topper for a bed that is not just firm but hard.....? Would it have to be a foam topper to make a difference? TIA

Surely it would depend on the softness / hardness of the mattress underneath?

I don't know. Can a very firm mattress be made more comfortable by any topper? Anyone?

It would be fractionally more comfortable, in that you'd have a bit more cushioning, although the hardness won't disappear. You'd need a thick topper, down, or foam, not the thin poly wadding type.

Ok, thanks helly.

My in-laws had the hardest mattress known to man on their spare bed. If I got to sleep at all on it, I would wake up sorer for every night we were there. We gave them a feather topper as a present - nothing. My kind MiL started folding up two duvets on my side of the bed so I was sleeping several inches above my husband and it barely helped. When we realised we were actually unable to spend more than three nights there purely owing to how much pain the mattress caused, we finally asked them to change it, and thankfully they did. That's the way forward.
