How do you wash black and white clothes?

In a dark wash? In a white wash? on their own? I ususally wash them on their own but i resent putting a wash on just for one dress or top. can they safely go in with the whites?

I often do them in a 'lights' wash but it depends on the ratios of black and white. For example I have a top for DS that's wide beige and royal blue stripes, with a royal blue panel down at the bottom. I think I've put that in a 'cool colour brights' wash and a 'lights' wash, with no bad effects on it in the former and the other clothes in the latter. I probably wouldn't put them in a white wash as I generally believe whites should be all white. I don't even put DS's red-bordered & motif-ed white Y-fronts in the whites; they go in lights.

I'd do them in a lights wash with one or two of those colour catcher sheet things. I do love those.
