Nasty Stinky Hoover

I turned it on this morning and got a huge blast of a stale nasty smell. I've replaced the filter and bag and given it a wipe around in the bit where the bag goes but it's still happening.
Short of buying a new one is there anything else I can do?

Try vacuuming a load of bicarb of soda up; that neutralises smells.

DH bought these things that look like teabags that you drop in the hoover bag, but I'm reluctant to use them as they make the place smell like cheap lavender perfume.LOL

Saintly Anthea had a tip last week to sprinkle some drops of essential oil onto a piece of tissue then place it inside the hoover bag, you could try that
