Put to shame by friends who moved a week ago!

And we have absolutely no excuse for it. We moved 5/6 weeks ago now. I am pg, so is friend, she has 2 kids aged 6 and 4, i only have one age 4, her dh and my dp work the same hours in the same place, except her dh leaves for work early go the gym!!!

We went round to their house on friday night and it was spotless, all totally unpacked, only thing was they had clothes in piles in bedroom whilst waiting for wardrobes to be delivered, they were very neat piles too.

We however are still very much up the wall, cant get into dining room, or small bedroom, still boxes and washing piling up high everywhere!!! I just dont know where to start, i told p we really need to get a move on, mortgage money will be through in the next 2/3 weeks and then we have to start the decorating so we really do need to get sorted.

We do we start, I cant lift anything heavy (only just 14 weeks pg. But i figure start in the smallest room, pile up junk at front door therefore dp will have to take them to the tip as soon as he walks in. Im usually not to bad with tidyness, our old house was spotless all the time (if you didnt include toys!) Please give me tips!!!

Honey I've been here since last November and still haven't finished lol.

My advice... hire someone else to do it for you.

Tommy · 21/08/2006 11:24

we've been here 5 years and we're still not sorted
I think some people are like that - and some aren't.

BettySpaghetti · 21/08/2006 11:25

we have stuff stored in our out-building/workshop that we haven't unpacked from when we moved nearly 5 years ago so I shouldn't worry about it!

julezboo · 21/08/2006 11:36

lol I have to worry about it! Whenever i get out of bed i tumble across to the door (im peeing like 6 times a night alone lol) we have no where for new baby to go, ds has to climb over things to get into bed! I need to get started and start throwing out mil's stuff...

Suppose that could be my excuse, mil left alot of stuff of hers that she couldnt take with her so thats where Ill start then move onto ours!

thanks x x

People who are that orgnanised are lacking in something elsewhere.. it's just not right.

AvaLou · 21/08/2006 14:23

I bet they have boxes in their cellar or cupboards.

kimi · 21/08/2006 14:37

Moved here on 1st af july and apart from bloody Argos taking until last monday to deliver the beds and wardrobes was sorted out in a week, If you had of seen it the day we moved it was hell in boxes, we started the move at 8.00am and got to bed at 3.00am.
I hate moving and i cant live with mess.

Julezboo do you have anyone who could come and help you out??
I bet you friend had help.

AvaLou · 21/08/2006 14:42

I guess it depends on how organised you are when packing.
First time we moved we both moved from shared houses to live together so had little, and everything was well labelled and organised.
Last time we moved I was 5 months pregnant and DH had a huge project at work so we ended up literally just emptying drawers/cupboards into boxes when we found the time and throwing all our clothes into bin bags, it took us ages to get sorted that time!

julezboo · 21/08/2006 16:26

avalou - thats was like us this time, i was on bedrest for the first 12 weeks, it was a quick decision, dp got a new job within 2 days of deciding so mostly packing was just thrown into boxes and binbags and i dont know where to start!

Kimi - no one close tbh i would want to invite anyone into this skip!

Well how about just tackleing it a bag/box at a time, and dont let it stress you too much.

We did bring a box of washing up with us, All toghter now YUCK

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 21/08/2006 20:12

We moved 10wks ago and there's still at least one box in each room. Boxes are all right by me as long as the contents belong in that room.
Shelves are the way forward, the more clutter above headheight and off the floor the better IMO. Maybe your friend's new house happens to have as more built-in storage or shelving etc. 6yrs worth of shelves kept things in their place at our old house but here the walls are bare (and crumbling!) so the boxes are all full of former shelf fodder iyswim.
I've also got one of those cheap canvas/woodframe wardrobes with just shelves in it for hiding stuff as you can roll down the front when people visit.
