coat and shoe storage help needed, for living room

Hi,
We are a family of four with far too much stuff!
Our hall is very narrow so no room for storing anything.
Our back door, which we use all the time, comes straight into the living room.
At the minute we have shoes and toys in a trofast unit by the door and a pile of coats on the floor behind the sofa.
I hate it and am desperate for somewhere to keep everything neatly but hidden away so it doesn't look like a hallway but without looking like a wardrobe either.
Am thinking about having a cupboard built into the corner of the room, floor to ceiling. Before we start heading down this route does anyone have any other great ideas?

Can't help on the floor to ceiling thing but we have a teeny tiny hallway and nowhere else to store coats. The hall is hardly wider than the door but we managed to squeeze in an old fashioned shoe cubby unit and wall hooks with shelf over. I had the shoe unit made bespoke because ready made ones were all too big (luckily even DH has small feet). It was surprisingly affordable from www.pinedemonium.co.uk .

We have the Hemnes shoe cabinet from ikea. Very good for shoes & I do put ds bag & coat (he's only small).

something like this?

you could adapt it to have shoes on one side and coat hooks at two levels on the other side.

Also shoe storage could be used as a console table at the arm or back of a sofa.

Or something like this as combi shoe storage/coffee table.

It's the somewhere to hang coats without the living room looking like a hallway or bedroom that's really causing the problem.
Thanks for all these ideas. I'll have a proper look at them all when I'm on the pc later.
The pax looks like being closest to our budget (of £0!) but still concerned it may just look like a wardrobe!
