I add a scoop to my washing machine in the same drawer as the powder; it softens the water so you can use less powder.

Also good for getting scummy rings off the bath (make a solution or a paste if really dirty) and added to water to mop the floor.

Try this website for more ideas.

If you've bought caustic soda be very careful about using it for washing etc as it is highly corrosive and attacks organic matter, hence being good at unblocking drains. It will attack cotton (it is used for mercerizing cotton where is dissolves loose fibres, giving a lustre to the cloth, and also for making seersucker where it stretches the cotton where applied). I do not know what normal washing soda contains but I'm not sure that would be strong enough to unblock drains.

Caustic soda is very corrosive, and should not be inhaled - making it into a paste will make it hot and it will give off very nasty fumes. Therefore you need to be really sure of the type of soda you have bought.

good point molecule; i assumed it was washing soda crystals as that can be used to unblock drains too.

I use soda crystals for soaking whites and for my DS' blazer. Brings out so much dirt. Use it in the washing machine, use it everywhere really. Great stuff!

it says it is used for drains and it is washind soda, think it attacks the grease in the drains. I have really stinky drains so will let everyone know.

Soda Crystals have loads of uses - i seem to use them everywhere around the home because they are so cheap!

They are great at removing burnt on food and grease on grill pans and cooker tops - I use the Liquid Soda Crystals as you can just spray them straight on without having to make up a solution, but you can also use the powdered version. This is also great for cleaning the BBQ before putting it away for the winter.

I also use them to clean the bathroom - works brilliantly on cleaning the bath and shower and getting rid of soap scum and limescale. (The instructions recommend that you don't use them on lacquered taps and fittings though.)

Check out www.soda-crystals.co.uk, which gives loads of cleaning tips.

Hope this helps!
