Broken cat flap - how to replace?

The cat flap in our back door has got broken. There is a huge crack in it which I've taped up for now. I've never liked it and now it just looks fcking awful. --We don't even have a cat!

It's in a piece of glass. The door itself is a glass door made up of several glass panels (secondary glazed, I think): how do I go about replacing the pane?

You need a glazier to come & do it. You may as well get a microchip activated cat flap. You never know how many cats use your house as a stop off.

is it the actual flappy door bit of the cat flap? They are cheap and easy to replace. i know you don't actually want a cat flap, but this might be a cheaper way of doing it, rather than replacing the pane if it is double glazed. I got a door off amazon for about £5. petsafe and staywell are very common brands.

Thanks both bonzo, it is the flappy bit, but the plastic frame surrounding it has cracked, too. I think the whole thing needs to come out.

The cat flap has been locked for as long as we've lived here. I'm not really a cat person (too aloof for me!)

I guess then, I need to replace it fully , or get a quote from a window company, or try and source a new back door. Probably would prefer not to get a new back door because the door matches thr windows, so I'd be after something very specific.

I've just looked and it's a Staywell cat flap.

Do you know if they are universal fittings?

Could a novice like myself fit a new one? Looks like there are screws thag hold it in (woah, this is the longest I've ever looked at it!)

They fit in a standard size hole, replacing it with another cat flap is a very easy job. If you don't want a cat flap get a quote to regulate the panel first though, then you can decide which is better.

If its locked whats the point of fitting another one though? How does the cat get in?

The OP does not have a cat.

The flappy bits are different sizes, but I think the stay well one only has 3 sorts, big, small and a funny shaped one. Very easy to replace, I've done it several times. Not told needed. You can get spares for all the removeable parts (I have replaced the hinge cover and the draught excluder bit).
