What clothes/toy storage do you have in your small bedroom?

I am redecorating our small room ready for dd3 to move into.

I need clever ideas for clothes and toy storage.

What do you have?

What sort of bed will be in there? Ours are high enough that about 8 ikea 'vessla'(?) boxes fit directly underneath and you can store loads of toys in those.
For clothes, they just have chests of drawers, no hanging space. They are only 4 and 2 though, so don't need it for uniform or anything!

I need hanging space because I don't iron so it goes straight onto hangers!

Her bed will be a cotbed but am trying to think long term.

We have a built in cupboard in room which we have a chest of drawers in so some hanging space and some drawers for underwear, pjs, jumpers etc

How old is your DD? Are you looking for hanging space that she'll be able to reach herself? GLTC do this child height clothes rail or a slightly cheaper version here.

The Ikea Stuva range has kiddie height wardrobes and lots of different options of storage benches (good for toy storage) and drawers (assuming you don't hanging socks and knickers and will need some drawers!)

I don't really want childs furniture that she will outgrow.

Love those Malm drawers as lots of storage but not too much width. Does the mirror worry you though? I would be concerned about glass in her bedroom incase it broke

She will go into the bedroom when she is 6 months.

The malm drawer is quite tall so don't think she'd reach it. It's screwed in and looks safe enough. You could probably cover it with transfer thingy that keeps it together if it were break but we've never had a problem with DS age 4.
My DD age 14 has the white set and loves it so would definately grow with her.

Thinking of the Hensvik wardrobe

There is a wardrobe that matches the malm range. It is the pax wardrobe, you buy the carcass and then you can choose whatever doors you wanted. The double carcass is 100 cms wide and come in choice of 2 heights. There is a huge variety of inside accessories you can get for storage. I have a wall of pax wardrobes in my bedroom and I love them.

Get 2 x 1m wide IKEA pax wardrobe frames without doors to save costs and you'll have all the storage you'd ever need! Then you can add shelves/baskets/cubby holes/hanging space for clothes/bedding/toys as required. You could add doors later when she's bigger/gets a bigger room if you wanted to.

I have 1 of those in ds' room (and 4 elsewhere round the house) and its worked brilliantly. You can unscrew and move around the fittings, which I've done as he's grown up - so instead of cubbies filled with baby vests, and chunky toys he now has lots of low shelves for his lego models etc and his clothes are higher up, folded into these baskets which he can reach independently now.

I've got the hensvik wardrobe. I think its suited to the needs you mentioned. 2 wide deep shelves and I also use the 'top'. There is enough hanging space for my twins tops (but they are just 2 years old) and you could store things on top. I would recommend it.

Also, I use cheap plastic Ikea boxes on the shelves and pull them out like a draw. That way can store things right to the back iyswim?

Honest if your short of space you have to go tall to get the room!

Dd was in a 6by 6 room for the first few months and she had Stuva wardrobe with draws underneath. A tall thin set of 6 draws. Shelves on the walls and plastic boxes on wheels under the cot.

The ikea expedit range is very good, adaptable and by adding the boxes to it can be used for toys and clothes. Or books if you don't have the boxes.

I'd second pax wardrobes. Functional and adaptable, lots of storage, can be floor to ceiling. Can get slides doors if that helps with space.
