April's Fledgling Fliers: there's no fooling the Fat Fairy this month.

elliepac · 31/03/2014 16:27

In a blatant steal from last month's thread:

So here we are, April already.

So for those who don't know the fledglings is a long running thread. Some of us seem clicky but that is because we have been chatting on these threads for nearly half a decade makes everyone feel old we quite like fresh blood though so feel free to jump in and join us.

Three key points to keep in mind:
(1)No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine
(2)You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
(3) It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

If you are new then trying to spend 15mins decluttering and the babysteps is the most. Some of us Bitchy can have scary looking lists. One word of advice ignore them. Do what you can, anything is better then nothing, and don't judge yourself against others

BitchyVstheUFOs · 25/04/2014 21:31

I was feeling really :( about the fact that I have only finished 1 blanket, but I realised that I have used up 1x 100g ball, 3x 50g, 1/4x 100g ball and numerous scraggy ends of wool. I think I am going to have to be happy with that even though I have not finished off as much as I would have liked. I am still working on it though and there are 3 blankets that are heading nicely towards completion, 1 which needs the majority of a 100g ball to be added to it, and at least 1 from scratch. So that I guess is progress. still disappointed though

slackcabbage · 26/04/2014 04:41

Bugger, I am wide awake.

Going to do some laundry ... .

Brew Brew Brew for anyone else who is up

slackcabbage · 26/04/2014 05:53

Ta da:
rabbits
quick tidy around sitting room/play room
dw
triaged washing
one load washing on
folded clean towels

Just supping tea and waiting for 15 mins (until 7am over here) until I can decently make a noise and activate food processor which sounds like a motorbike starting up to make pancake mix for family breakfast to celebrate dh's homecoming. Having them with apple compote a la Belge. Intended to make batter yesterday but in reality I got through very little of my list Blush owing to general fatigue and faddling around, so determined to do better today!

Loads of sweeping street/re-hanging of curtains/mowing lawn type jobs necessary. Tomorrow almost entirely taken up with church, dd's friends and choir.

Tally-ho!

MercuryRising · 26/04/2014 06:23

Morning SC

I am lying in bed pretending to sleep, but inspired by you I'm going to get up put a washload on and get on with some work. Hope your family enjoy the lovely pancakes.

Good morning

ta da
file a 300 page document
1hr crotcheting

The plan today involves laundry and tackling my room, and some more work on the blankets at the end of the day. As I lack motivation, i think the power of 3 might be the way to go. So to do:

Breakfast, shower and up
load of laundry on
empty bathroom ready for steam cleaning

BitchyVstheUFOs · 26/04/2014 13:52

Weekends without ds are productive things. It it quite nice to see things heading towards being tidy and organised. A long way off yet, but it is heading in the right direction.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/04/2014 17:49

Hmm, what to do.

Dh has been out today to the pub with friends (CAMRA thing, just down the road). I was assuming that he'd probably be no use to man or beast the rest of the day, but hadn't anticipated him rolling back in fairly sober about an hour ago with a friend in tow (who I don't know too well) and sitting chatting away on the sofa. The DCs are starving, i want to do the dinner, there really isn't enough to offer it to friend (two salmon fillets between 2 adults and 2 DC really won't go to another adult). I can't walk in and ask how long he's going to be here for!

slackcabbage · 26/04/2014 18:00

Could the salmon wait until tomorrow Whoknows? In those circs I'd probably wander in and say "the dc are ready to eat, shall we order something?" (ie pizza/takeaway of some description). That way, your guests will either take a hint and leave, or stay and partake, and you'll know what's what ... hopefully anyway!

Swanhildapirouetting · 26/04/2014 18:04

salmon pasta? With dill and cream and grated lemon, if you have some dried dill in the house.. or with broccoli and cream or spinach?

Dh has been in Oxford all day for book fair. I've had not very nice day with mardy children. Ds2 had two friends over, he invited them himself after football. And promptly went off them after an hour Hmm and complained that ds1 was stealing one.

Then he painted his shield, which he has been putting off for some time, a major plus. But dd then had a tantrum because she claimed someone had eaten the doughnut "she had been saving from yesterday".

I am very tired after a teetotal night out yesterday, drinking tea Confused and trying desperately to book a foreign holiday which will suit this crazy family, but nothing seems to quite fit the bill when you cannot drive; besides early morning flights fill me with anxious thoughts.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/04/2014 19:11

Well, in the end I just cooked it and the DCs and I ate in the kitchen (it was salmon with a cold rice noodle salad and satay sauce). I stuck DH's portion in the fridge. Friend's wife turned up to pick him half an hour ago and they've just gone so DH is eating his now, all fine in the end. We had Dominos last night so I really didn't want takeaway again tonight and don't have much else in. Than you for the suggestions Swan and SC.

Anyway, we've had a nice day. Took DS to his OT appointment this morning - this is getting expensive, not only the cost of the sessions but the shopping opportunities it presents while I wait, OT clinic is bang in the middle of a lovely town centre. We needed new school shoes for both DCs today, so we had lunch in a cafe and then did the shoes. Had to go to another town for that, nice town hasn't got any children's shoe shop apart from Clarks which never fit my two, so we had to head off to scuzzy town which has a lovely independent shoe shop Confused. Got home about 3, and just pottering, got the woodburner lit with the last few logs. DH and DS are watching the football now.

Just remembered, need to go and dig out DD's summer school uniform.

Back later.

BitchyVstheUFOs · 26/04/2014 19:29

Sounds like you have had a productive day whoknows

Swan i have not had a holiday in years because of ds' inability to cope. This year I am not getting one either really, but I am getting a change of scenery with no housework or cooking so that should actually be a nice break. Going to take a ton of books to read, got loads piling up that are on my to be read list that I haven't got around to reading. Good luck with your hunt for the perfect holiday.

SC how you feeling?

Productive day here, 2 boxes left to go and a mountain of paper work that is now sitting on the office desk that needs doing before I can count my room as tidy, but I all but have a floor and have been productive enough to not post a final ta da list. It would be long and scary, think i have earnt my curl up with a film and the crochet hook evening Hmm still bloody declutteringv Grin

Hope you all have lovely Sundays.

dizzyday07 · 26/04/2014 22:31

Only really been doing the basics since I last posted so here are the highlights

Wed

  • Cleaned the bathrooms
  • DD came home from school with a sore back so missed her new longer swim training session

Thurs

  • Supervised DD and 3 friends baking cupcakes after school
  • Went for a run with DD who got bored half way round so left her sitting under a tree (Thank Goodness it is a quiet road!)

Fri

  • Up early for swim training then DD decided after 20 mins in the water she wasn't feeling well
  • Compost bought to cover growing potato plants
  • DD to pm swim training where she was out in front as it was breaststroke!

Today

  • Laundry load on and hung to dry
  • Bed stripped and lined washed
  • Pots washed and sink shined
  • Scattered some wild flower seed on front garden
  • Surrounded veg beds with some slug barrier gel (fingers crossed they now leave my radishes alone)
  • Went for a run (on my own this time!)
slackcabbage · 27/04/2014 01:38

I'm still awake actually Bitchy despite being up at crack of sparrows ... thanks for asking! (Have digestive pain under left rib - not severe - just annoying!). How are you doing?

BitchyVstheUFOs · 27/04/2014 05:28

Overthinking, so threw myself into the sorting out of a pile of disorganised reports and records. Have only just realised that the reason I might be feeling tired is because it might be stupid o'clock and I have been working most of the night. HmmBlush

Sorry to hear you have digestive Pain SC hope you managed to find some sleep at some point, and are not suffering too much today.

Think i better high tail myself asleep, going to take me a week to recover from this stupidity.

elliepac · 27/04/2014 09:12

Morning everyone!

Your babystep for today is what's for dinner.

No mission as it is the weekend.

But today is renew your spirit day.

Have a good day everyone!

OP posts:
ToffeeWhirl · 27/04/2014 09:13

Actually managed a decent night's sleep last night (mainly thanks to ignoring DS1's nocturnal habits and leaving him to put himself to bed for a change. Dread to think what time he went to bed.). Sorry for all those who were up at all hours last night/night before (and hope the pain gets better soon, SC).

Just about to take DS2 to his swimming lesson, then we have a long walk home. Looking forward to a quiet day at home once that's done, so I can catch up on stuff.

Hope everyone has a good day.

elliepac · 27/04/2014 09:19

So yesterday I did nothing. And i mean nothing. Stayed in my pj's all day, caught up on some tv with DH, DS played out with friends all day and DD played in the garden all day. Need to make up for it today. So am list posting:-

Ta da so far:-

Washing on line
Washing in machine
S/s bathroom
Tidy living room/dining room

To do:-
More washing
Putting away
Washing up
Dinner
School work
Ds homework

DH is tackling the garden which currently looks like a cross between the local skip and the amazonian jungle. DS is still in bed. DD is playing out in the garden.

bitchy i swear i heard you were supposed to be taking things easyWink

sc hope you managed to get some sleep.

swan i wistfully browse the internet looking at sunshine holidays but DH hates heat/lounging around pools and much prefers holidaying in the UK. We went to corfu before dc's were born and he hated it. Spent most of the time inside the apartment.

Better get cracking. Back later.

slackcabbage · 27/04/2014 11:32

Morning all!

Thanks for kind wishes! Hope you are all OK too! (Glad to hear you took it easy yesterday Ellie and that you got a good night's sleep Toffee)

Hope you manage to catch up on shut eye today Bitchy!

Dizzy v interested to hear about slug barrier gel (don't think that has reached Belgium yet but garden centres are about 20 yrs behind despite being so close to Holland!)

Was so tired I slept very well between 3.30 am 9.30 am! Pain is the same. Managed to drag a comb through my hair and make it to church at 11am. Dh has gone off to collect a friend of dd's and I'm supposed to be cooking lunch for eveyrone but not feeling terribly chipper. No one but myself to blame. Had scan booked months ago but stupidly cancelled it because of something or other happening. Wish I'd gone now of course! [Sorry for constant health whinging!]

On the up side - it is a gloriously lovely sunny day here! Hope you all have relaxing Sundays everyone!

slackcabbage · 27/04/2014 11:48

Argh, forgot (again) to say

Whoknows glad Sat night worked out OK in the end!

Swan hope dh reciprocates and you can have some child-free time today!

Ellie we should swap husbands! Grin I can't stand heat/lounging around pools either but dh loves that! I like staying put, solitutde, GREEN fields, horses, remote rugged countryside, self-catering (simple fare) - dh likes PEOPLE, being constantly being on the move, sunshine, being not too far from civilisation, endless fine dining and driving or flying for hours and hours (all of which I loathe).

All of which must sound like horribly entitled whinging Bitchy when you can't get away in the first place but glad you are having a change of scenery this year at least x

One other completely unrelated thing ... dd has beaten me at chess three times in the past 72 hrs ... she is 10 yrs old (approaching 11 yrs) ... admittedly this is the first time I have played it properly (apart from a game or two last year) for about 35 yrs and she has been playing it for 40 mins every Friday lunch time at school for a year ...but getting seriously worried about brain atrophy Blush Smile. Genuinely shocked that I am quite so bad at it!!! Blush

Relaxing feathery Sunday waves to everyone!
