How do I clean high chair straps?

My high chair has straps that do not detach! They are disgusting and unfortunately 7mo DS loves to chew them!
I've tried soaking with antibacterial spray and cleaning with cloth. Have also tried bicarbonate of soda and water solution. Anyone got any magical tips?

Washing powder or liquid?

The seats of my kitchen chairs are cream and my most foolish purchase. I use a so locution of washing liquid and vanish oxy action to scrub them, it works very well.

If they get really gross I have cut them off and thrown them away. I have a couple of pairs of these (or similar). They come with a loop thing that lets you attatch them to most high chairs. I have one set in the wash and one on the high chair.

Thanks both, will try the oxy/washing liquid solution and if that doesn't work might resort to the new straps!

I did toothbrush and some vanish. How daft I was to buy a cream high chair !!

I had the same problem. I put the highchair in the bath and filled the bath with water and bleach. That was the only thing that got rid the stains for me.

I don't think mine would fit in the bath! It's a ridiculous contraption - The tray doesn't even come off! "But it matches the nursery" - how I regret those words :)

Bleach spray liberally on the straps and leave them overnight. You may need to keep doing it over a few days but this and a serious scrub should remove it. If not I can highly recommend the ikea high chair for £15! It's the best purchase we have ever made.

I now hate fancy high chairs with their annoying padded seats and massive trays! Such a waste of space and a nightmare to clean!

I actually went to buy the Ikea high chair after getting annoyed with mine vut my DM pointed out there are no shoulder straps so DS could easily climb out, which put me off

Ds never climbed out of it because the leg bit isn't big enough for them to get through. It really is a brilliantly thought out piece of furniture.

You've just reminded me i need to clean my highchair straps. Same problem here!

I second flash with bleach, does the job.

Personally I don't think i would use bleach. Get yourself a small bowl and put some washing powder in there with some boiling water, place the bowl in the highchair and soak the straps then rinse them until the water is clear. A nail brush works well to scrub them or the washing up brush.

I was having the same thought homeaway, as DS chews and sucks on them a lot when waiting for his food. Think I'll try the nail brush and washing powder, then maybe go over with sterilising solution. I know that is pretty much bleach also, but at least then I'll know it's at a safe concentration.

Once you're got them clean, strap DC in and only then put on their full size bib (the sort with arms) and it should keep them cleaner

I used a solution of the varnish powder (the one for getting stains out of clothes) scrubbed with a brush with an old towel under the straps to soak up the solution and then made sure the straps were well rinsed out with water. Worked wonders and my straps are now clean again :)
