Tips for using essential oils to make scent my home

I love it when you walk into someones home and it smells gorgeous, I want one of those homes!

I have loads of bottles of essential oils but don't use them which is just ridiculous as I love them. How can I use these in my home?

I would like to avoid candle burners as I'm sure I'd forget about them and burn the house down Any plug in diffusers people can recommend? No woodburner but we do have radiators but I guess they would be no use on warmer days.

I have some nice small bottles which I could make reed diffusers with. Am I right in thinking there something you have to mix the essential oils with to make the mixture travel up the reed? I assume I can buy the reeds in bulk on eBay or similar.

Pop a cotton ball with a few drops of essential oil on it in your hoover bag, it'll make the house smell lovely. Also make you own air freshener in a spray bottle with a blend of essential oils and a drop of vodka to fix it, topped up with water.

please don't use plug-ins, waste of electricity and resources and always stink like air freshener.

you can get cheap diffusers in B and M etc, or perhaps plant some seeds now for lots of fragrant flowers? Make pot-pourri?

the best smell is fresh air.

I use three things:

Fresh air, any morning I can stand having the windows open.

Reed diffusers.

Fabreeze where ever the dogs tend to sit.

Thanks for the tips. I open all the windows in the morning and they get closed whenever I get too cold so that is helping, especially with lingering food smells from the night before.

I will definitely put some oil on a cotton wool ball in the hoover bag. I think it needs changing anyway so a good opportunity.

I've put vodka on the shopping list and will make up some room spray. I think I'll use those holiday travel sized spray bottles so I can have different scents in different rooms.

You get little porcelain rings for lights that are absorbent so you drop essential oils onto them

Put some water in a spray bottle and add a few drops of oil - use just one or a blend. Don't go too mad with the amount. Shake and use as an air freshener. I tend to use it as I walk backwards out of a room so that I am not inhaling it.
Also a light spray over bedding js nice especially if you use something that is supposed to help with sleep

Reed diffusers are brilliant, they last for ages and you don't have to top them up or plug them in etc, you can just forget about them.

I will definitely make up some spray bottles and will make a relaxing one for my bedding.

I have lots of suitable pots for reed diffusers so will try to make my own, just not sure what ingredients to use. Will re-Google, oh and get some new reeds. I do find they get dusty though and I must admit I don't like how they look but hey if I want nice scents I will have to actually put something in the room

I'm decorating and will be having new carpets soon so once those smells have settled I'm looking forward to a gorgeous smelling home

My house stinks of damp at the mo and I can't find the source - driving me mad, going to pull washing machine out tomorrow to see if anything under there!

Fabreeze, chocolate, the air effects ones. Spray a bit of kitchen roll with it, too, to put in your hoover bag.

Rub a towel with some fabric conditioner with Fabreeze on your heaters.

Fabreeze is your friend.

Good call I think I have fabreeze -pink one somewhere but not a lot of fabric in kitchen to spray it on! Will start with spraying the blind.

Neom reed diffusers are amazing

I had a damp bit in my kitchen, bleached it with a water / bleach mix in a sprayer and that seemed to sort it.

I used to hate the Fabreze scent, has it improved?

I love Neom stuff but definitely beyond my budget hence wanting to make use of the essential oils I already have. However it's my birthday soon

Expat - Thankyou so much.. Bought the fabreze cotton air effects and now I can't smell whatever it was that I could smell.. And it was this morning I sprayed it, very happy!

Put a couple of drops of oil onto some of your light bulbs, or run a cotton wool ball with a few drops along a radiator?

I got porcelain stars from Body Shop which you can hang from radiators, just put a few drops of oil on them.
