new washing machine ? Beko

Hi looking to buy a new washing machine and was looking for something basic/cheap but reliable and had heard the Bekos were Ok. Any suggestions re models and what to avoid or any other similarly priced machines. It won't get used that much so not wanting to spend a lot.

As a brand I wouldn't go near. LG are cheap and mine is still going at least 12 years on.Telegraph report

I bought a beko. It is a month and a half old. it is broke. something yo do with the electronics. They have to send a new chip out. Not impressed. Had my last washer, a hotpoint, for 10+ years

Yikes, don't like the sound of that. Any recommendations for LG. To be honest could pay more it's just not really going to be used much but not wanting to have to pay for repairs either. Nearest town is over 40 miles away so ££ to call out anyone.

An alternative to cheap but still cheap would be this Bosch on e-bay for me. New but has a dink that won't show and comes with 2 yrs from Bosch as standard. You can also extend with Bosch direct for peanuts.

That was the first one I found by the way and I'm in no way assosciated with the seller-just tight and like a bargain

I bought a Beko as a temporary stop gap. It broke after a week or two. So I got a replacement (same model) and 10 years later its still going strong

But there doesn't seem to be any program (apart from the 30 minute cold wash) that takes less than 2hrs 10mins to complete

It didn't like washing liquid either - its a lot happier since I went back to powder.

Bosch are brilliant. What's your budget?

I am a Bosch enthusiast. Beko is a budget brand but occasionally, to my surprise, some of their products (but not all) score best-buy status in Which tests.

For reliability, the bottom-of-the-range model from a good maker, is much better than the top-of-the-range model from a poor maker.

The more complex machine in any brand has more to go wrong. Each maker tends to use the same quality of major parts (often identical parts) in all its machines.

I've got a Beko which I've had for about six years. Never gone wrong and is still working fine.

I've had a Beko for 3 years- better than my old Bosch.

T0 be honest, if your nearest town is 40 miles away, get the absolute best you can stretch to - to avoid repair call outs/runs to launderette etc.

I have just bought an LG 12KG washer and so far so good.

The LG replaced a 7 month old Samsung 12kg - that was rubbish, do not touch Samsung.

Selling my Bosch washer (to get that bleeding Samsung!!!) was the BIGGEST mistake I ever made, it was a fantastic machine, still as good today, 4 years on, as the day it was bought - I sold it to my sister, so I can still look at it longingly :(

So from my experience, you will never go wrong with Bosch, I can't comment on LG as I have not had it long enough (although in the 6 weeks-ish I have had it, the door sensor is a little touchy - the door is different to standard washers, there's no handle the you operate, you pull the door to open - like you do on a dryer.

Also have a Beko washing machine (and fridge-freezer and dishwasher). The 'normal' cycles usually take about 1hr 52 mins because they are A rated appliances so lower energy use. Teenage son uses the super fast settings 39 mins to do last minute (football and gym kit forgotten until needed) washes which work well. We needed a bigger capacity washer so this one washes about 9kg and I'm very happy with it, had it two plus years so far. We splashed out on a expensive Miele fridge/freezer a few years ago, never again, constant faults and broke down full of food, we lost the lot, never again!

Better with hot and cold fill, some of the budget ones are cold fill only, they take a long time to complete the cycle.

It was the cheapest silver coloured washing machine I could find about 4 years ago.
It cost about £200 including delivery so it is basic but it's absolutely fine.

Standard 'synthetic' washes take about 90mins, 'cottons' take about 2 1/2 hours but tbh I've only ever used the cottons setting by accident!

I'd happily buy another one when this one gives up.

We've had a Beko for over a year with no problems and a 60degree wash with max spin takes less than an hour.

My mum loves her Beko. The washing machine repair man recommended it to her as cheap but good. She says you have to use the quick wash button though or else cycles take ages.

I have a Bosch Classixx cheapest one and it's fab. Nothing fancy but does what I want it to.

thanks for all the comments. Went into JL at the weekend who suggested either a Zanussi or Bosch but forgot to ask how long the wash cycles were... will do some more research. does the clssix do a quick wash?

Some of them have a "variable" button which looks at the water to see how dirty the load is, and adjusts the time. On mine it halves the regular wash time. There is also a quickwash button that never gets used.

You can view the brochure on the makers websites to check features but they do not usually show prices. Or if you have time you can have a brochure posted.

Another fan of the Bosch Classixx. we bought it as a temporary replacement and still going strong two years later.
My neighbour invested in an all singing, all dancing Hotpoint & in the last year has begged use of my machine three times while hers is fixed, she frequently compliments my machine

I have had a Boschand and a Beko, there is absolutely no difference in performance at all. I also had a Hotpoint which was rubbish and the most expensive one I ever had, I would never touch Hotpoint.

I bought one as a stop gap as d one broke down a couple of months prior to us moving house. I went for the cheapest I could find under £200 and 4 years later it's still absolutely fine!

My Bosch Classixx doesn't do a quick wash but I don't find I need it. I think it's about 1hr 30 for a normal wash. The Beko wash cycle really is ridiculously long - over two hours - so it's more necessary with that.

I am so grateful for this thread, it just seems to hard to choose, but I think I will go for a Beko.

I have had a JL own brand and a Bosh, the Bosh was rubbish.

I've got a beko. Quick economy wash on 40 takes 58 mins and can get plenty in. Idiot proof as dh and 7 yr old dd can use it without help!
