RIP Hotpoint washing machine. AKA Triggers Broom

After 14 years I don't think there are many small parts inside that haven't been replaced - Door hinges, bushes, bearings, springs, seal, bolts, drawer... but it finally died in style last night by throwing out the power downstairs as soon as it tried to spin.

DS1 is heroically trying to resurrect it. I keep telling him its time to get a new one but he is elbows into the drum with his screwdrivers and not listening

What shall I get next? The Bosch Exxcel WAQ283S0GB looks good. Anyone got one?

Yes! Get a Bosch and stop him before he manages to get it working again!

We didn't get that exact one but we bought this little beauty last month when I finally got sick of the piece of crap Hotpoint I bought last time round.

It's amazing, I keep sniffing the clean clothes because the Hotpoint left everything fusty even with bleach maintenance washes every week. I love love love my Bosch

I have a Bosch (touching wood frantically at this point) that I bought second hand (it stank like a swamp and was making rattling noises due to a 5p coin trapped in the filter) for £40. It's still going strong. The only thing that annoyed me was the persistent beeping at the end of a cycle, but I found out how to turn it off.

It will save you money in water & electric to buy a new one. You could sell the old one for spares on eBay.

Sell for spares? Never thought of that! Don't worry about DS1 actually fixing it, he's only 3 and the toolkit is plastic.

Anyway, we ordered the one I linked to and it should arrive tomorrow. Hurrah.

After 14 years (wow!) I think I'd go for another Hotpoint. I have one and and big family. It's on constantly and on the odd occasion it needs anything the parts are easily available.

I hate to say it but I've had two Bosch washing machines in the past 6 years. The bearings have just gone on the most recent one and I am definitely changing brand alliance. Currently in the process of repairing a big american toploader that a family friend was giving away that just needs a £20 part so hopefully will save myself blowing another £400 on a washing machine

I'm fully expecting the next one not to last as long. The one I killed was a very basic bottom of the range non-fancy electronics or programs or anything other than a dial and two buttons, there was nothing unfixable to go wrong. They all seem to have programs and functions I don't need and all sorts of gubbins now.
