Aga help with Hotplates and coins

Hi,
I've heard you can put a coin under a pan to cool it a bit. Is one coin under the edge ok or should I use three?

can't you just move it closer to hte edge of the hotplate / half on half off?

Yes I've seen that but the half that's on boils rapidly and the simmering plate is a bit cool.

You use 3 under the pan so it stays flat but slightly raised from the hot plate, 2p are best

Yes my mum does this on her Aga using 2p coins.
