How often are we mopping our floors???

Hi
My whole house has wooden floorboards and I'm mopping the kitchen, lounge, dining and bathrooms once a week and the bedrooms only get done once every 5/6 weeks! I vacuum every day and clean up any spills when they happen but does my mopping average sound a bit lazy? I was talking to a friend the other day and she asked me how often I mopped and when I told her she pulled a "You've got be kidding" face at me. What about you guys? How often are you doing yours?

Umm

I get a detol floor wipe and stand on it and sort of swish my foot around every so often.

jamiesam · 15/08/2006 23:10

Let me tell you about the dust balls in my hall

colukmea, if you're concerned you're not mopping enough floors, I've got a few that wouldn't know a mop if it bit their bottom ?!?!

saadia · 15/08/2006 23:12

The kitchen, which has a tiled floor, 3/4 times a week. The rest of the downstairs, which has laminate, once a week, except for the part near the garden which gets dirty very quickly, every other day.

misdee · 15/08/2006 23:12

mine get mopped daily now peter is home. his carer does it

milward · 15/08/2006 23:14

Wash the kitchen floor as required - everyday in places & twice a week all over. Have 4 kids & garden opening on to kitchen.

Astrophe · 15/08/2006 23:15

...we have been in our house for 6 months...
DH did it once
I did it once...
guess what I am doing tomorrow

brimfull · 15/08/2006 23:16

once a week if I'm being good.It gets swept a lot though

cece · 15/08/2006 23:22

In our rented house we had a tiled kitchen floor. Did it once in Spring and then again when we were moving out. So twice in 8 months. But did sweep and hoover regularly. Also wiped up spillages as they happen!

Our new house has parquet (sp?) floor throughout ground floor. Not sure if I am supposed to mop it? Anyone know? They did leave me polish and a polishing machine but no instructions!

Astrophe · 15/08/2006 23:23

cece glad I'm not the only one!

cece · 15/08/2006 23:24

Yes I don't think it looks dirty! Life is too short for mopping floors imho!

Astrophe · 15/08/2006 23:27

mine looks v dirty!!! But every day I notice and think "should wash that floor", but I always have other things that seem more urgent!

cece · 15/08/2006 23:29

My mum came to stay and while I was out cracked and washed the hall floor. Apparently it had been annoying her for quite a while! I hadn't even noticed.

I just think it is lucky that I am like this as DH makes such a mess with his stuff lying around everywhere. If I was houseproud it would really annoy me

bnm · 16/08/2006 00:49

I am very up and down sometimes they get cleaned 2/3 times a week other times months go by!

Alibaldi · 16/08/2006 00:58

Vacuum every other day - 2 ds and dog. Wipe over every week, wood shows the dirt far more, wipe up spills etc as they happen. Should probably do it more, but there's so much more to life than housework and I'm loving being outside in the sun far more

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 16/08/2006 20:02

In the 10wks we've been here:
Floorboards downstairs - swept once or twice
Old vinyl kitchen tiles - washed once but still looked dirty so I may not bother again . Swept 1/2 a week (my 18m old hoovers up his own spillages.)
Carpets upstairs - hoovered a few times whilst defleaing them but they are old and stained so I will probably leave them alone until DS is potty trained then replace the lot

southeastastra · 16/08/2006 20:04

loads but i brought one of those 'super mop' things and it's made everywhere more slippy

I can't believe I'm asking this but can you really hoover a non-carpeted floor? That's never occurred to me before! Doesn't it make a horrible scratchy sound like blackboards?

zaphod · 17/08/2006 09:23

I always hoover before I mop, it gets more of the dirt up. Otherwise I just sweep. Always hoovered when we had a dog, to get the hair up.

Frizbe · 17/08/2006 09:24

Once a week unless the kids are extra messy in the kitchen

Bozza · 17/08/2006 09:25

You can hoover. Our dyson has a setting for it I think. But I generally prefer to sweep because it gets into the corners round the toilet, coatstand etc better. I mop the hall, toilet, kitchen and utility once a week. The upstairs bathroom is so small it is hardly worth mopping so I get down on my hands and knees and wipe that. Occasionally the kitchen might get done a second time.

oliveoil · 17/08/2006 09:28

I use those swiffer things to get all dust up sort of 2 or 3 times a week.

Hoover - same amount.

Mop - kitchen and laminate sitting room same.

Dh is in charge of the bathroom and I avert my eyes from the carnage in there and just moan at him until he does it

ecb · 17/08/2006 10:38

laminante floor throughout. i do as little housework as poss.hoover downstairs whenever needs doing. mop every 2-3 weeks, and i hoover and mop upstairs every 3-4 weeks, although thinkingabout it, it has been a lot longer than that. oh dear.

morningpaper · 17/08/2006 10:41

I do mine every day but that's mainly because then, when I drop food on it, I have no qualms about picking it up and eating it because I know the floors are really clean.

bluejelly · 17/08/2006 10:54

Cleaner does it once a week, for which I am pathetically grateful
