Things that make a house look "together" - what do you think?

So a tip I read on Mumsnet ages ago, was that if you have a bit of jewellery and your nails done then you look in control of your life to outsiders -
even if you're not. Grin
I am aware that we shouldn't care what others think but I am working on a fake it till you make it methodology.

I am a big fan of FLY lady and love the shiny sink feeling -
What is the good housekeeping equivalent of having your nails done?

I REALLY don't feel qualified to post on this thread as mu house is often a mess! There are some things I find help tho...

Instead of letting dirty dishes accumulate on surfaces because the dishwasher is running (if you are lucky enough to have one) put them all in the sink and wipe surfaces.

You're better off putting 3 things awY properly than shoving 20 in the corner

Have staging posts. Eg I save jars in the garage but cba to take them out all the time. I collect them in one spot then take them together

Wherever you collect crap like receipts, keys, letters, make up, lip balm etc, put a basket of some kind. Also have one on kitchen table. But go through it regularly.

Yes, great to have a basket in the kitchen for little things. Saves putting them in a drawer (that you spent a precious hour sorting)

either ironed sheets on beds or put a bedspread over the top (I do the latter- much easier). A messy bed make the whole room look undone and studenty, imho!

Yes I do have bedspreads - and matching in the DC room - which also makes things look a bit more thought through.
everything a bit of a battle with this atm.

KNow this is a zombie thread but I am looking for tips and found this one.
I have stuff everywhere - and in theory I have a place for everything but STRUGGLE.

Any tips gratefully received.
