What storage for playroom

NewNameWanted · 19/02/2014 10:38

We're planning a garage conversion to make a playroom for all of the children's junk toys and need some recommendations for storage please?

Is Ikea Trofast worth it or are we better off with shelving?

TIA

I've just bought the trofast range and I love it! really recommend it.

Moomoomie · 19/02/2014 10:48

Ikea expedit is also very good storage, so many options for each square.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/02/2014 11:10

DD's playroom is a mix of Expedit and Trofast. Fantastic stuff.

NewNameWanted · 19/02/2014 12:53

Thanks all. Looks like a trip to Ikea is in the offing.

I wouldn't bother buying it new, loads on eBay :) I paid £38 for mine. Great Condition too..

NewNameWanted · 19/02/2014 12:56

Even better. :)

I have Trofast and Expedit - much much much prefer Expedit and it can "grow up with them" - as it takes different baskets/cupboards etc.

In my Expedit I have drawers for pens and hairbands, cubby holes/shelves for books, night lights, games, puzzles etc and then bins of toys etc.
Whereas in the Trofast I have bins. Wish I had discovered Expedit first.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/02/2014 19:54

You can get the drawer-sized inserts for Trofast, though, we have a combination of all three sizes. However I think the Expedit will last DD until she leaves home.

Prefer trofast. Can put shelves or cupboards in but trays and ribs are brilliant for all the assorted toys.

Mrswellyboot · 19/02/2014 20:26

I love expedit. We have it on our baby's room and use it for tissues, baby milk, blankets etc and will get more as he grows.

I love pinterest for ideas for using it

This idea is lovely.. Hmmm won't let me add photo

One length of expedit along each wall and a foam top to make storage/bench also

GoodnessIsThatTheTime · 19/02/2014 20:28

A lot more expensive but traby is really nice too.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/02/2014 20:40

Traby was discontinued, wasn't it?

I like a mix of Trofast and Expedit. Trofast is great for Lego, random crap and things with lots of small bits.

GoodnessIsThatTheTime · 19/02/2014 20:46

Oh was it? Shame. Was a bit overpriced bit filled or under-the-Stair gap nicely!!

GoodnessIsThatTheTime · 19/02/2014 20:46

I want their dining chairs next....

Ourhouse is slowly turning into an ikea catalogue.

bigwellylittlewelly · 19/02/2014 21:14

Expedit is our favourite!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/02/2014 22:31

I always think we don't have much Ikea stuff, then I look around and realise that isn't true at all! It just seems to enter the house by stealth!

NewNameWanted · 22/02/2014 13:11

Ooooo, lots more answers! Thanks all.

Expedit, looks better.

Woodifer · 24/02/2014 19:15

Expedit is discontinued!

GoodnessIsThatTheTime · 24/02/2014 19:17

The replacement is almost identical though... and looks better. Same internal dimensions just thinner edges.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 24/02/2014 19:39

When was Expedit discontinued? I bought some 2 weeks ago!

EarlGreyCuppa · 24/02/2014 19:45

We have a floor-to-ceiling wall of Besta, push-open cupboard doors towards the top and sliding doors below - in the vain hope that most of the mess will be contained and hidden most of the time. You can get wine racks and drawers that fit inside Besta also.

Am looking at their kitchens next...

BeCool · 25/02/2014 12:08

Expedit is still all over the IKEA website .....

BeCool · 25/02/2014 12:09

Fuck!

5madthings · 25/02/2014 12:09

Love trofast we just got two new units of it, ots fab.

Expedit and the new version of it also looks good.
