Best way to get mud and grass

Out of white rugby shirts?
I was volunteered to wash the shirts this week, what are your best tips for bringing them up clean?

Watching.... We have red with white trim - real bitch to get mud out... Soaked in vanish, use arial with stainmaster, and still got staining - convinced on the adverts they just use new clothes!!

These are white with green trim.
So far I have blasted them off with a cold shower and now they are soaking in cold water with white vinegar.
Next stage washing machine with bio powder, cold wash?
