Its bloody marvellous.
Fantastic. I have tiled floors thought the ground floor and they are gleaming. The grout is white. My hob is sparkling. My back hurts but I got carried away.
I am so going to get the iron attachment.

Ah. Shame about the wood. We have it everywhere except kitchen and bathrooms.

CosyTeaBags · 04/02/2014 12:23

Ooh I've been contemplating one of these

So am I right in thinking that you can use it on carpets as well as tiles? Doesn't it shrink the carpet?

And how does it do the oven - is there a smaller nozzle for that kind of thing?

And do people recommend paying more - like the Polti - or would a cheaper one do just as well?

I think my life is missing one of these. I want to be persuaded to buy one!

Pagwatch · 04/02/2014 15:40

sorry. I meant to post which model I got - especially as one of you pm'd me to ask Blush

It's fab. Utterly

Beastofburden · 04/02/2014 16:18

£329?

CosyTeaBags · 04/02/2014 16:55

OK, assuming we're not brave enough to go for the deluxe £300 quid model, can anyone recommend a middle of the range one?

Or is it a case of you get what you pay for and the cheap ones are not worth having?

KungFuBustle · 04/02/2014 17:50

My Morphy Richards was £70 ish cosy, my live for it is boundless clear from posts up thread.

delasi · 04/02/2014 18:00

Shock The Pifco and Prolex (sp) sound fantastic especially at those prices...

Can you use it on lino, vinyl, laminate? Tiles and the oven? I can't Google so easily on this phone but I. Need. To. Know!

I just told DH that we might be buying a steam cleaner. He says having known me for a while now he's not surprised. Am I some sort of cleaning nerd?!

Anatana · 04/02/2014 18:03

I second the Morphy Richards rec. I have the 2in1 and it is ace.

delasi · 04/02/2014 22:12

Oh I've only gone and bought a steam cleaner now... Blush Grin

CosyTeaBags · 04/02/2014 22:36

I'm tempted.... we have textured Karndean flooring, and I'm always going on at DP that the bloody floor has little bumps in it designed specifically to trap dirt. I assume one of these steam cleaners would sort that out?

Tell me what other uses you've found for them.

I would like to:
Clean grouting
Clean windows
Clean mouldy corners
Skirting boards?
Piss stains on carpets (dogs not mine)
Dog beds??

Can it tackle that lot?

RebeccaJames · 06/02/2014 05:10

Hi all. Being a proud new owner of a steam cleaner, I read this with interest. I find it great for the oven and floors and windows, but it makes not one jot of difference to carpet stains and grout.

Is there a trick to either of those?

Pitmountainpony · 06/02/2014 06:10

Yes cut the groat out and re groat..makes it lovely and white again.

RebeccaJames · 06/02/2014 07:51

I think that's a bit drastic for some mild staining?! Plus several posters here said they'd got it clean with the steamer and I wondered if I was doing something wrong.

winklewoman · 06/02/2014 08:03

Ours is one of the cheap ones, and it is gradually working its way through sixteen years' ingrained grime on the grout. I found trickling some undiluted Flash liquid along the grout and immediately steaming helps.
We have one of those Vax carpet washers so have not tried the steamer on carpets but can't imagine it would be very effective.

CosyTeaBags · 06/02/2014 09:27

OK I excitedly announced to DP last night "Ive found something that's going to change our lives .. we're going to get a steam cleaner!"

He said "You can't use them on Karndean floors".

So tell me wise MNers, will it melt my Karndean? I feel so deflated! I NEED a steam cleaner!

Karndean's website says it doesn't recommend steam cleaners as it could melt the adhesive, and they recommend you buy their own special Karndean floor cleaner instead. We have some of that, it's rubbish. It doesn't get the dirt out of the approx one million tiny pores and bumps in the stone effect tiles one bit.

I hate this floor - DP had it before I met him. It never looks clean, even when I've just cleaned it.

EBearhug · 06/02/2014 13:11

I was in town this morning, and I looked at the steam cleaners that were available. If I wasn't feeling a bit strapped for cash at the moment, then I might have been more tempted.

Maybe after next payday...

offblackeggshell · 06/02/2014 13:14

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but you can get a wallpaper stripping attachment for the Polti too. It is ace.

bigwellylittlewelly · 07/02/2014 10:31

Few weeks ago I was home with DC and a knock at the door and a nice man with a doodah handed me a Morpy Richards 9 in 1 steam cleaner.

Puzzled I returned to the kitchen where friend and I were drinking coffee and rang DH. Oh yes he said, I was rather taken by the reviews, saw it half price thought it'd be useful Shock so far he has used it to clean everywhere and do his work shirts.

Fab!

Pagwatch · 07/02/2014 10:38

CosyTeaBags

Yes. It does all of those. I have a pissing dog. It got the dog piss out of the grout
It does my hob beautifully too without scouring it.
And did my velvet sofa.

I've been tempted by steam floor cleaners, but put off as we had a hand held steam cleaner that DH bought...and then kept in the cupboard for ages. I tried it clean grout and after 2 tank fully of water it just died but as we had had it ages we couldn't return it.

Anyway our floors are cream porcelain which also seems to build up general grub in the surface texture. Yesterday I washed them with very hot water and sprayed them with Sugar Soap before I washed them and they look so much cleaner. Cosy - you could try this on a small section on your Karndean?

CosyTeaBags · 08/02/2014 09:35

What is sugar soap better ? I could give that a try

Aberchips · 11/02/2014 12:12

Bugger - now I want a Steam Cleaner Envy

GingerMaman · 11/02/2014 12:23

I have a vax steam cleaner (a basic one I think), but the only thing is it doesn't pick up any hair or small pieces of rubbish. Do all steam cleaners work the same way?

KungFuBustle · 11/02/2014 16:54

It just steams the area it won't suck rubbish up or anything.

GingerMaman · 12/02/2014 09:24

Isn't there a vacuum and steam cleaner in one?
