I had the same dilemma, I never knew anyone who'd 'used' one as in had it go off. I asked the man who maintained my boiler, he said as long as it's from somewhere decent (b&q not cheap market stall) it'd do it's job if needed.

I have an Ei , model Ei204EN. It has a be kite mark and a date I must replace it by. It's extremely loud and piercing, I hate testing the fucker. It has a fault light too.

I need to be certain it'll work as it's for protecting the flat above our garage, in which we have a biomass boiler.

I've known one go off. MIL now buying new cooker!

this is what standards are for. Buy one from Wilko, Homebase, B and Q etc.

BTW it isn't monitoring carbon or it will detect trees. It is monitoring carbon monoxide.

Yep, typo well spotted. Once I'd typed the Mon of monitor, my brain assumed I'd done monoxide.
