Ok I must be thick, but how do you wash say for example a rblack and white stripey t-shirt? If it goes in the black wash, do the white stripes not go grey? or if it goes in the white wash, the whites will all go grey? We've got some red and white t-shirts and the white bits have gone pink.

so is there a special technique? I'ce just bought a brand new black and white skirt and I don't want it grey and nasty.

I'd wash it by hand the first 1 or 2 times as after that the colours shouldn't wash off. Or wash it by itself in the machine. I would then wash it with coloured clothes at low temp, say 40 max.
Not a silly question btw !

I had a navy and white top from next, put it in with the dark wash and the navy came off on the white. I took it back and complained and they refunded but said I should have put it in with the whites. No way i would risk that! I think the simple answer is not to buy them, or handwash.

totally valid questions - was in similar conundrum over a b and w stripey playsuit thing of ds's. i washed it with a couple of towels that I knew were colour-fast and that I didn't mind too much if they went a bit grey...and at 40 degrees...I now wash it with whites, on the basis that the black stripes don't run, but I can't guarantee that the other coloureds in a coloureds wash wouldn't run onto the white stripes...

mind you...even though I now know it is colourfast...I still get anxious when I put in the wash!

ta. don't feel like such a dimlow. annoyed our red and white t shirts are now pink and white. can't geet colour savour sheets here. you don't know you're born in uk, you really don't. luckily, i do really like the skirt & it was half price so don't regret buying it (yet)
