BaconAndAvocado · 20/01/2014 22:58

We've had loads of problems with our drains recently and wondered whether certain toilet papers disintegrate better than others?

Yes, the posh quilted stuff is notoriously bad for drains. Use recycled

BaconAndAvocado · 21/01/2014 11:37

Thanks agent will give it a try.

I love the Nicky three ply toilet paper from Farm Foods, 18 rolls for four pounds.

BaconAndAvocado · 21/01/2014 23:46

What is Farm Foods?

Farm Food is a shop which mostly sells frozen foods, but you can get all sorts of other things there for pretty good prices too.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 21/01/2014 23:57

I think Lidl also sell nicky toilet roll.

moppymarker · 21/01/2014 23:57

the aloe vera ones seemed to block our loo

For those with no local Farm Foods store, I think you can pick up Nicky toilet rolls in B&M or Home Bargains. Great quality for the price, but not quilted so hopefully no blocked drains.

ilovepowerhoop · 22/01/2014 14:41

Home Bargains sell Nicky toilet roll as we also buy it - 18 rolls for £3.99

PigletJohn · 22/01/2014 15:50

unless someone is stuffing it down the WC in handfuls, I would suspect there is a defect in your drains. Is it an older house with salt-glazed clay pipes, or a modern one with uPVC?

Another thing that helps is the amount of water flow. A drain that baths and sinks run into is less likely to block than one with a modern low-water content cistern and a small handbasin, especially if it has a small and large flush option.

Jbck · 22/01/2014 16:53

Charmin blocked mine and my Mums drains.

BackforGood · 22/01/2014 18:53

Quilted toilet paper is the worst culprit for blocking drains

Believe me, there are a lot worse things than toilet paper that people put down toilets

Baby wipes are not flushable, but I thought the Andrex "washlet" type wipes were supposed to break down?

ExitPursuedTheRoyalPrude · 24/01/2014 16:53

Oh no.

Lagoonablue · 24/01/2014 16:54

They don't break down very well at all I have heard.

Bunbaker · 24/01/2014 17:00

"We've had loads of problems with our drains recently and wondered whether certain toilet papers disintegrate better than others?"

Yes they do. Premium brands take longer to disintegrate than cheaper brands. Brands that are marketed as environmentally friendly dissolve more quickly. We use Nouvelle and it dissolves pretty quickly and we have never had a problem with our drains.

BaconAndAvocado · 24/01/2014 17:16

Thanks all. Will, give the recycled roll a try.

and to add that nothing should be flushed in the UK except body waste and simple toilet paper, as thin as possible.

nothing else, no wipes, no sanitary items, NOTHING.

bog not bin!

Patchaya · 17/07/2017 20:58

I have been using Aldi toilet paper for ages with no problems, been using the new quilted paper (Saxon Superior) they are now selling for the last couple of months in its place and one of my toilets has blocked up. had the drain rodded through and it was only blocked with the paper. Make your own conclusions.
