Smoking oven, urgh!

I can't cook in our electric oven without it smoking a horrible chemically smoke that gives me a headache :( Sometimes it's worse than others, you can actually see the smoke, but sometimes you can just smell it. Left the grill on yesterday with the oven door open to try and burn off any fat etc in case that was the problem, but it's still doing it today.

Had the same problem since we moved in in May and it's really starting to piss me off because I can't cook without the smoke alarm going off!

Does anyone have any solutions?? I don't know what can be causing it :( Whenever I clean the oven it's thoroughly rinsed so there shouldn't be any languishing chemicals in there, and the smoke is just so horrible it instantly makes my eyes ache.

Google isn't much help either.

Help meeee!

What about paying someone to clean it for you? I have a chap come and do mine. It's like a brand new oven afterwards. He might be able to advise you.

Get a professional clean. Mine was like that until i had it cleaned. The fan was causing all the smoke.

I think it will be fat deposits burning off.

Roast meat is quite bad for that. If there is an exposed grill element in the oven it will always smoke until the fat burns off. There is a fatty mist like from overheated frying pans. I don't think it will help to leave the door open.

If you roast a lot, try roasting bags.

How much was the oven cleaning, ilovemydog?

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 18/01/2014 15:27

When I had a single oven it was forty quid but I've got a double now and he charged me sixty. That was just the ovens, not the hob.

I don't do it a lot, it's expensive, but as a treat every so often. Honestly, my oven looked brand new inside, like it had just been installed. It was amazing! Grin
