What colour leather sofa?

Birdies · 13/01/2014 08:04

Looks like a lot of people think they're naff but I really don't want the hassle of fabric ones and two LOs.

Any views on which colours look the nicest? Am thinking of a deep claret or deep purple but maybe I'd be better playing it safe with brown...

I've got a fabric sofa and I hate it saving up for leather again I'm going to go for brown as it will go with anything

Cherrypi · 13/01/2014 08:44

I'm tempted by a charcoal grey one. What do others think?

Birdies · 13/01/2014 08:48

I've ruled grey out because our room feels a bit 'cold' at the moment (we currently have 10 year old black leather sofas) and I really want to warm it up. I like the colour though.

I love grey black and white but I find because leather is cold anyway it seems colder, I used to have cream and that wasn't bad

Birdies · 13/01/2014 09:44

Just looked at photos of purple ones and they look cold too. I think I may be going for brown too....feels a bit samey though!

How about cream?

Birdies · 13/01/2014 13:25

Would worry about it getting dirty easily so prob ruled that colour out. Where are you getting yours from? I've seen some bad reviews for dfs so not sure where to look really.

I bought deep claret and I love it.
I have DS 15 and 18 and DH and I let them have a say in the choice. I have never liked leather furniture but decided to go with the flow. We went for a huge corner thing which is supposed to seat 5 but comfortably fits 8. It's a very deep colour and quite masculine looking but I can honestly say it's one of the best things I ever bought. We all love it

secretscwirrels · 13/01/2014 13:31

Oh and it looks warm. I was worried leather would feel cold but it doesn't.
My room is neutral / creams/ browns and the claret warms it all up.

CatAmongThePigeons · 13/01/2014 13:32

Don't go for cream, we have a cream-coloured leather and every sticky print and dirty mark is shown.

What colour is your room? It mustnt clash!

Beige- I love that colour.

LinghamStyle · 13/01/2014 13:41

I was thinking about getting grey (I have black now) but purple sounds nice. OP can I ask where you seen purple ones please?

secretscwirrels · 13/01/2014 13:44

We got ours from CSL , they don't do the same one now but this is similar. Ours is modular and bigger than this one as you can have extra sections.
I bought it 15 months ago, nothing has marked it.

Birdies · 13/01/2014 13:48

Is that the colour secret? I like it. We're after reclining ones too, going to have a look at that website.

limgham it's here that I saw the purple - www.gplan.co.uk/sofas/washington-leather/ But so expensive. You can order swatches from there though.

It's very close to that colour. The colour looks different depending on the lighting in the shop, or your room.
I have the recliner at one end and the "chaise" as they call it at the other. (DS calls it the girlfriend end).
We then have a corner, two seats and an armrest / console which holds drinks and pom bears.
They do purple as well.

Birdies · 13/01/2014 13:52

lingham the site that secret recommended has a lovely purple one - see link www.csl-sofas.co.uk/recliners/empire

Ours is caramel coloured. We have white walls (rented property, can't be arsed repainting as may move again and would have to paint it back to white again), dark wood furniture, dark brown very soft throw/blanket for snuggling and two big, very squishy, very soft cushions from Ikea that I covered in brown teddy bear fabric. Sounds Hmm looks fabulous and very welcoming and gets lots of compliments.
So comfortable. DS is 2.1 an the sofa has been our best buy (abroad, so a link is useless!). Still stainless, scratchless, quick.babywipe and no.more yoghurt/cream cheese/chocolate blobs Grin

elQuintoConyo · 13/01/2014 14:03

Stain-free/scratch-free I knew what I meant Blush

We went to a store in the nearest city.
The only thing I disliked about the process was that, like most large furniture chains, they want you to take interest free credit. The cost is obviously built into the the price of the furniture. We didn't want credit but they flatly refused to accept a reduction for a cash purchase.

Weelady77 · 13/01/2014 15:18

I had a cream one I loved every week I washed it with lux flakes and if there was a mark in between I would take a baby wipe over it, I've been looking at very and dfs but the sofa I've got just now is from there and it's not the best tbh!

5HundredUsernamesLater · 13/01/2014 15:41

We have two leather sofas in a dark blue-green think it was called marine blue or something. I love them.
