It's not stuck down with glue as far as I know. It's stuck fast. How can I lift it? Thanks

If you get it warm and wet it will probably come up with a good tug Grin

unfortuntantely you might bring up some of the work surface with it.

unfortunately rather!! need to put my glasses on.

Could you very gently slide a long thin knife underneath the chopping board then slide in a big spoon handle first for leverage?

NewBlueShoesToo · 11/01/2014 11:14

Try spraying furniture polish around it and under the edges.

Thanks both

Will it slide? ie can you pull it til it is hanging over the edge of the work surface?

Imnotaslimjim · 11/01/2014 12:49

You need to get some water under it, warm would be best if you can. Then a thin blade to ease it up

HazeltheMcWitch · 11/01/2014 12:54

spray wd40 under it?

NB i always seem to recommend WD40 on here. I am in no way affiliated with them, but I do find it very useful and I really like the smell.

I'd try heating it up, maybe sitting a painful of boiling water on it. It might take a while, so have a couple of pans on the go, heating one up as the other cools a bit. If there's a vacuum underneath, it might be sufficient to release it. Drilling a teeny tiny hole (1mm bit) up from underneath might also serve to release a vacuum... If that's what the problem is.

Thanks all. Will try and give some of these a go. We did try bashing the sides with a hammer but it didn't budge.

Have you got a steam cleaner? Gentle application of steam might help.

PigletJohn · 12/01/2014 16:23

I have a feeling it is stuck to the oil (unless you spilt something sticky, or a sugary drink). Worktop oil can go sticky as it oxidises, especially if it was put on thick.

Warming it should help. It might pull off some of the oiled finish though. A cloth moistened with boiling water and folded onto the top of the board might help. maybe try lifting at a corner with a palette knife, and slowly winkle it up.

Ooh, what about - take a length of dental floss and pass it round/under the board, then cross the ends over and pull tight? Like you're cutting a cake into layers?

knickernicker · 13/01/2014 18:40

We are doing the dental floss right now. It slides under one corner but won't go near the others. The board is about an inch thick so anything we put onto won't heat it I expect.
