Removing mould on bathroom ceiling.

Hi, I want to sort out the mould that has grown on the bathroom ceiling in the last 3 months. It is a very cold bathroom, with 3 Walls and the ceiling bring outside. I try to ventilate thouroughly, leaving the window slightly open all day when I am out, and airing thoroughly after baths.

This has been fine till about November when mould started spreading all over the ceiling.

I have tried cleaning it off with dettol solution, but it just grows back when it is very damp outside.

How can I kill it, and what paint should I use to redecorate?

Dettol mould and mildew remover always does the trick. If it keeps recurring it is because there is not enough ventilation in your bathroom.

This is brilliant for removing mould.

This solved our long term condensation problems ( and my asthma problems).

Aha, I am a firm believer in dettol, but I did not know they had a specific product for this problem. I will try it.

Well, I don't know if it is recurring as it has only become a problem in the last few months. I can't help feeling that there is bound to be a condensation issue in the room when 4 out of 6 sides are outside walls.

if the ceiling is especially mouldy, then the loft above is probably not insulated.

Is it a back addition with no accessible loft? if so, what's the headroom?

Hi, thanks for the replies. I will clean it off with mould spray and then I will look out for a bathroom paint with fungicide then.

It is a flat roof immediately above the ceiling. I am not staying long, so not thinking of future preventative measures. I do ventilate the room very thoroughly, just recently it has been so damp that even with ventilation the condensation doesn't get dried off.

I noticed I had a small patch of black mould on my bathroom ceiling last week I sprayed dettol mould cleaner on it and it's gone

just be careful that it doesn't drip on any towels or rugs ( or on you ) as it bleaches - as I found out with a stack of Christie towels left in the bathroom when I sprayed the ceiling !! ( kids bathroom - they don't like the sound of the vent so don't switch the light on !!! uuurrggghh !!)

Hg mould remover is the best but expensive it is stocked in Homebase.

Dettol mould remover is nearly as good and it is stocked by most supermarkets and wilkinsons.

Oil of cloves kills the mould spores.

where can you buy oil of cloves.. ?want to try it

I tried the dettol mould killer spray, but it says on the label it is for tiles, upvc etc, not for plastered surfaces. It worked for about 2 days longer than normal Dettol, but all the mould grew back after that. Sigh.

Oil of cloves can be bought in the pharmacy. It is used for dental pain....
