I've just pulled the undersink (non-food) bin out to clean and I've discovered mouse droppings. We don't keep any food out and food recycling is kept in a sealed caddy. Now I feel that the whole house is dirty! I'm scared to open any cupboards and in fact don't really want to move from the chair I am currently sitting on...

I am not exaggerating when I say I feel utterly sick - I'm totally phobic since having mice in a student house once YEARS ago :( :(

What do we do? We have two cats, which clearly don't seem to have heard them. DH getting traps later. Is it a total nightmare to get rid of them? We live in an old terrace, I can't see how we'll be able to fill all the holes!!!

Snap traps, the only thing that works. Try and work out where they are coming from and place them right there.

Get dh to clean all the cupboards and place traps where he thinks the may have been.

It's horrible, but not the end of the world. Stay calm.

Check with your local authority, our has a "Mouse man" that came put to use to lay traps and advise on pest control.

Try peanut butter in the traps - mice like it more than cheese!

Thanks all...have calmed down a little now. I couldn't bear the thought it my lovely (but old) house!!

DH set traps where they would have to come past to get into the cupboard. Also cleared everything out, even looked under floorboards and found grand total of 3 droppings. Is it possible that it came in a few times, realised that there is literally no food accessible and went away again? I do hope so!!

if you get through your life without this you'd be living...somewhere they don't have mice! Doesn't mean you or your house are dirty.

traps are the way. Make sure all food is secured in plastic containers (flour, biscuits etc).

if you use humane traps, the mouse needs to be taken a mile away.
