Boring I know but spin dryers

Are they worth getting I do loads of washing and then drying in my tumble dryer and I thought that perhaps the spin dryer would take the pressure off the tumble by taking more water out the wet washing. Does anyone have any experience of them?

They do take out a lot more water than the washing machine can - maybe 2800rpm instead of maybe 1600 - because it's safe to do that speed spinning round the way. I used to have one before we had the washing machine, and things air dried pretty fast. I know one or two people on here bought them recently to do what you're suggesting and seemed to be very happy with the results.

In the old days, there were terrible injuries if people put their hands inside while the drum was still moving. I presume a modern one which is not second hand or faulty cannot be opened.

Do you have the space to put one?

I don't have one myself and with modern washing machines and tumble dryers, I can't personally see what you would achieve by buying another appliance.

But ifthey do spin at the speed that AmuminScotland says then maybe it would save using the tumble dryer so much. I'm not certain about how much though. I mean, if I put a partially dry single item in my dryer I might give it half an hour, yet a decent sized load, not even spun at the highest spin on the washing machine will dry in an hour.

Factor in the cost of buying a spinner.

A modern tumble drier uses between about 30p and 50p of electricity per load depending on size and whether it is synthetic or cotton. I would be asking how many loads I'd save to cover the cost of a spinner.

Can I bump for the evening crowd.

I remember the faff of using one when I was a child of having to hold the machine still whilst it tried to vibrate across the floor, hoping the ice-cream tub doesn't overflow!

Just run an extra spin on your washing machine and see if that makes a difference!

It's just that I seem to do loads of washing and I have loads of baskets of wet washing waiting for their turn in the tumble!

Perhaps you need a more efficient tumble dryer? Mine takes about the same length of time as a load of washing does in the machine! Or don't put on more washing before you out on the tumble.

Perhaps you also should rethink ow much you wash? Are all the clothes that you are washing really dirty, or just being washed as they have been worn once?

I found when my previous tumble died of old age and I replaced it with a lovely Bosch one, the drying time was much shorter than it had been before - so a load would be dry a long time before the next batch in the washing machine was actually ready.

Then the washer died too, so I replaced it with a lovely Bosch one of those - and now the two things take about the same amount of time.

I'm so chuffed with Bosch, I've got one of their dishwashers too now!

I love mine, I don't tumble anymore. I fold everything, spin it until no more water come out and dry it on an airer overnight without the heating on.

It's a faff but I don't like big bills.

Got one today I put in a load of wet washing straight from the washing machine I did have to split it into two loads but I think nearly a pint of water came out in less than a few minutes, so I think thats less work for the tumble. I do have an awful lot of washing DH has a dirty job 3 messy DCs and some of them not me like country walks through mud I think!

Mines a 400w machine so theoretically only 4p an hour to run because my electrics 10p a unit.

If it knocks half an hour off the time of tumble drying then you are saving money straightaway.
