Vacuum for hardwood floors ?

Hi
We've just replaced all of our downstairs floors with hardwood. The first time I vacuumed I could see a few small scratches had appeared. I'm now doing the floors by hand which is a pain in the wotsit.

Could anyone recommend a vacuum for me please? The best one I found when I googled seemed to be a bissell which only appeared to be sold in America.
Thanks for any help or suggestions you can come up with.

I had a Miele and now a Hoover - one that you pull around behind you. Neither scratch the floor (unless the machine flips over or you drop it on the floor)

for hard floors, a cylinder, and leave the brushes down.

Filtration of the exhaust is very important as you don't want fine dust blown out to settle on your shiny floor.

Miele if you can afford it, or some of the Bosch are very good. The cheaper ones tend to have smaller capacity.

Thanks for the advice both. I'll check out the Miele ones - may get a bargain at this time of year
