Polish has left a mark on the wood - help!

I sprayed polish on the desk top, went to get a cloth and got distracted. I came back 5 minutes later and polished the desk but it's got a very noticeable mark on it where the polish was, like it's eaten away the varnish.
What can I do?

What polish was it?

does it say anything on the tin about it having this effect?

For now, I'd leave it and see how it dries. It may polish out over the next few days.

It was a spray tin of Pledge. It was the dregs of the tin so it came out in a concentrated dribble rather than a spray, so I've got the trail marks left on the desk.

Looking on the internet, it says to try a mixture of white vinegar and water to see if you can get rid of it:

You can remove furniture polish by clearing all the items that are on the table, mix white vinegar with water, dip a clean cloth into the moisture and squeeze out the excess moisture, clean the table towards the end of the table such that the polish can be removed evenly and use a dry cloth to wipe out all the moisture that was left on the table and let it dry out alone

Then you'll know if it has damaged the varnish or not.
