Couch cushions

If your couch cushions, the ones you sit on, aren't machine washable, how do you clean them? Esp. if your toddler has spilled stuff on them.

I used to machine wash them anyway but I expect dry clean or sponge clean.

I buy them from Home Bargains at the stupendous price of £2.99 each, washable covers (and cheap enough to replace if necessary!)
