Carpet cleaning

I'm replacing my living room carpet after the year but in the mean time it's bugging me cause it's minging not got time to get someone to clean it or hire machine!! Any ideas how to give it a freshen up?

Why can't you hire a machine? much quicker than getting down on your hands and knees and scrubbing by hand. I'm sure there are lots of places nearby that hire them out. Rug Doctors are brilliant.

I've not got time limbo it's getting replaced in January so was wanting just a quick fix, a friend suggested diluting bleach and scrubbing (cream carpet)

biological washing liquid made up with boiling hot water and a scrubbing brush or flannell and spot clean the worst areas. makes a suprisingly big difference.
