Hi all, we have a small purple sheepskin rug in front of the fire.

Can it be washed in the washing machine ?
It was about £30 from M & S. Don't really see the point in paying for dry cleaning.

if you can't be bothered why not.
it might shrink

I'd do it on 30 degrees with detergent for wool!Grin

It not cant be bothered. Its just the expense. If the rug was only £30 and the cleaning £15, money is quite tight at the moment.

Gosh, my first post came across like a couldn't care less. Sorry ! Just don't want to waste money

I meant if you can't be bothered with the outcome or if it gets a bit ruined (shape or colour)

I would not pay for dry cleaner either.

I'd research how these rugs are made - if the process involves any cleaning with water than it's probably ok.

but I'd wash it anyway. I wash a lot of stuff that's dry clean only - and I couldn't care less if it doesn't come out perfect!Grin

I do this with lots of things.

The way I see it is if it can't survive washing it may as well die now as later.

I wash my ordinary sheepskin. I usually dry it outside in the sun.

I do it on a wool wash, 30°C.

I cleaned my sheepskin rug a few weeks ago. It came up lovely. However, one of the bars affixed to the washing machine drum tore off. Washing machine still works fine.

ah - put it in a pillow case or something if not too big to stop it from being damaged!

MrsHoratioNelson · 09/12/2013 17:52

I've done it - gentle wash and woolite or similar detergent. Came up fine.

be prepared for the smell of wet dog as it dries..Grin
