If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support Brew, Wine and Cake along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do someting more interesting instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again!

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

More info here on getting started and Flying lessons. Here's the launch pad for more experienced fledglings. Don't be put off by the barf-tastic language of the site - the underlying system is sound!

Thanks to BlueEyeshadow and SlimChance for the November thread. Thanks

All welcome!! And remember that December is the new January! Grin

I just had tea and pain au chocolate in bed Grin Thanks DH.

Toffee - put the MN app on your phone. That is how I am here now.

There is also a flylady app which is useful for the routines as you can tick things off as you go.

ToffeeWhirl · 21/12/2013 09:02

Eustacia - I don't have a Smartphone! (still living in the year 2000 here Blush)

JustGettingOnWithIt · 21/12/2013 11:58

Sliding in to say Silly the words don't express the feelings behind
'so very glad for you all'. Grin Grin Grin

Blue and Whoknows Sad sorry to hear your bad news.

Hello to Eustica

Major change of Christmas plans here. Everyone’s been banking on drugs kicking in and changing things, but we’ve all had to face up to the fact I'm really not well enough to do what was originally planned as a family, and I’m not getting anywhere. My bodies overuling what I want to do in a big way no matter what I try.

Ds won’t go without me, so it looks like ds, self and a somewhat Grinchy relative will be doing Christmas in BinS.

Not great as no prep has been done for this, and Grinch feels strongly I should cancel all but food as they don’t like stress and feel I’m too ill, and technically has a point, (though it rather suits their agenda) I’m not in good shape, but they won’t provide for ds if I don’t. So feeling rather trapped by it all.
D/s and I are about to try and hit shops and get a tree and work out where we’ll put any of it and how to make it work out later. Bit brassed off with things at the moment tbh, but I’ll get over it.

Slides off thinking about Silly's news, and new grandaughter. Xmas Smile

CallingAllEngels · 21/12/2013 12:09

Just Sad

BitchytheGreat · 21/12/2013 12:16

:( oh just. I hope you managed to achieve a little bit of what you wanted christmas to be.

silly lovely news ma dear.

I have just woken up. Still feeling flat about cancelling plans. But it really is the best plan. There is the possibility of some low key plans later if i am still feeling falt and meh. Tbh I just want to sleep today but have to do proper flying. So coffee, breakfast and I suppose I had better get cracking. Cba though.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 21/12/2013 12:54

Haven't read everyone's posts but so pleased to read Silly's news, that has made my day. Xmas Smile.

Just - sorry things are going to plan, it's not nice being forced to change everything and have to fit in with everyone else. Good luck with your shopping today.

Ellie - well done to your DS, that's great news.

Bitchy - hope you feel better later.

Castle - have a safe trip home and a Merry Christmas

*EustaciaE - welcome to the thread. I've tried the Flylady app, but unfortunately I tend to get tempted to check MN and FB and email every time I pick up my phone. Which defeats the object!

Ta-da! - lie in till 9am having had a few glasses of Wine last night.

Get up and take DCs to see Father Christmas (thought they might be past that this year at nearly 10 and 8 but they still wanted to go).
Home via Pets at Home for Christmas presents for cats and stock up on litter
Made cranberry sauce.
DD is making lunch

I'm taking the DCs trampolining later, but it's pouring with rain so other than that we're staying in and will be wrapping presents. Then tonight pizza and Strictly.

CallingAllEngels · 21/12/2013 13:04

Going to have takeaway tonight since the fridge is nearly empty. Need to charge all my electrics, print hotel info, check camera and bank, wrap and drop off ILs presents. Still have tomorrow before we have to g8 but trying to get organised and all washing done.

I am now resting with a cup of tea Grin

Evening all.

Had a lovely afternoon visiting my Aunt and Uncle up in Wetwang. (I just had to write the name down because i love itGrin). Am about to brave the supermarkets so I can say I am done shopping.

blue and whoknows I am sorry to hear about your relatives. Bad news always seems amplified at this time of year. Big hugs to both of you and your families.

just Hmm. I hope you managed to get some shopping done and get at least part of the Christmas you wanted.

bitchy, this is precisely why I have always maintained that the whole getting dressed to shoes thing is bollocks. I am at my most productive first thing in the morning in my pj's despite what the fat fairy says.

No flying today. There's always tomorrowWinkGrin.

Slimchance · 21/12/2013 17:38

Ooooohhhhh Silly I've just read your post!!! Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Can't express how happy I am for you all! What a wonderful Christmas present!! xxxxxx Thanks Thanks Thanks Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

Ellie I'm glad you posted because I was just thinking about you today and wondering how you were getting on. Sorry the term was such a tough one but hope you have a chance to relax nowx Huge congrats to your ds on his literacy progress!!

Just sorry about the Christmas change of plans (and the Grinch). Hope you can make bits of it (if not all) work for you x

Whoknows I've been really impressed (and inspired) by how organised you are this Christmas!!

Good luck with the big sort Eustacia (and very wise reminder there about not trying to be super human)

[Force feeds Bitchy some calming Christmas brandy]

Good luck with the packing Dizzy!

[Snaffles Christmas gingerbread] Good luck with all your tasks today Castle and safe travelling! With regard to pil and sil - we were already planning to stay nearby (no choice because flat tiny and pil has hospital bed in main sitting room). We may well still do so, but awaiting sil's take on it all, how pil is, and what sil wants. (Complicated for a variety of reasons.)

Good luck with the packing and safe travelling to you too Engels!

Toffee would have gladly bought box of chocs too but school instructions for Secret Santa was that it had to be home made (grrrrr). Have just Googled 'Eric Ravillious' and love the look of those prints!

Waves to Stillwearingoddsocks Swan Feetheart Pushme Alice Angry Jdub and everyone else I've forgotten!

Having a reasonable day. Dh working so have been trying to keep dd entertained. It's amazing how a child who is white with fatigue at the end of the school term can bounce back with such rosy-cheeked energy once it is the holidays Xmas Grin.

Her school report/exams results were the worst yet Sad. Not terrible overall by any means but some particular bad bits. Feeling a bit deflated on all of our behalves (because of effort put in) but particularly hers.

Still feeling weak-legged owing to some sort of virus (headache/sore-throat etc). Bit miffed because having got most of the stressful pre-Christmas out of the way, this weekend was supposed to be our little oasis of calm relaxation prior to travel. And was intending to attend all the local Christmas concerts and participate in all things local that we don't normally get to do, but I'm only fit to stagger about at home atm! Never mind.

Ta da: morning routine, plus extra laundry, soaked fruit for cake (yes I'm very late with this Blush - going to make extra-moist last-min version), located and carried down decorations from roof, staggered up garden to cut holly and ivy for fireplace and mantelpiece, watched Channel 4 racing, watched Olympia coverage, played restaurants with dd, played Uno with dd, played 3 more card games with dd ... .

To do: make healthy soup, Strictly final, wrap some more presents (only dh's and dd's to do). Sort sideboard, table linen etc. Oh yes and sort two of my own presnets 'cos dh rarely has time so nowadays I always buy and wrap my own!

Enjoy your evening everyone!

Slimchance · 21/12/2013 17:46

Xmas Grin at Wetwang!

BitchytheGreat · 21/12/2013 18:27

You will be please to Know SC that since my last room I have been lying down in a dark room trying to find some energy and the will to live so that i can carry on trying to kill off the rest of the to do list.

BlueEyeshadow · 21/12/2013 18:50

Silly - What amazing news! Just wonderful! Xmas Smile Xmas Grin Xmas Smile

Just - sorry to hear that.

SC - DH and the boys were watching Olympia earlier.

Thanks for the hugs. Today has been an odd mixture of fun and fraught. DS2 has crashed out with some kind of recurring bug but did get some shopping and a lot of tidying done. Some decluttering and some hiding of clutter until after Christmas! Got DH's Granny (not my Granny) a lovely scarf in the end - alcohol definitely out and bath stuff no good either because of the danger of slipping.

Tonight we're having my "company dinner" - don't get a Christmas do because of being freelance so DH and I always have a nice dinner at some point in the week before. Just got to get DS1 into bed first!

[Big waves to everyone and Wine on the bar]

Blueandwhitelover · 21/12/2013 19:13

Lovely news Silly!
Sorry to hear others' sad news though.
Have been struggling to get rid of this chest infection and now have a sinus headache. Slept for four hours today.
Did manage to empty the bins and wrap a few presents.
Have started on a food list and a list of presents still to buy.

Castlelough · 21/12/2013 19:42

Hectic day!

Ta-da:

*Errand for principal
*Trip to garden centre
*Sold Dad's broken down/irreparable (thanks to me Sad) car to the scrapyard for the measly sum of €100 Sad.
*Trip to cobbler
*Christmas shopping (almost done now!)
*Grocery shopping x2 supermarkets (mostly for food hampers for DM/DMil)
*Tried unsuccessfully to pin down racehorse trainer - my horse was supposed to run over Christmas, but hasn't been entered Sad.
*Took down phone number for Slimming World, which has come to Ireland. All set to tackle the lbs after Christmas Wink.
*Slap dash dinner Confused, as was home so late from town!

To Do:

*Gingerbread biscuit dough
*Visit two different neighbours with cards and sweets.
*Bake gingerbread biscuits (catching up on virtual ta-da!)
*Make cranberry sauce
*Bake Victoria sponge
*Wrap mountain of presents
*Book tickets to see comedian
*Book Christmas circus tickets if credit card hasn't combusted...
*Laundry & pack
*Change bedlinen
*Tidy/clean kitchen

God, it's never-ending .....Hmm (although admittedly, mostly of my own making Hmm)

AliceinWinterWonderland · 21/12/2013 19:52

Silly I have to finish catching up, and I haven't had a chance to do any lists, but I absolutely had to come on and reply to your post.
