I am really tempted to treat myself to the new google nexus. I am due to start a uni course in January. I have a laptop but think I might benefit from a tablet for taking to uni for searching for articles etc.
I if get it in pc world ill get £30 back so it will cost £210. is it worth the money.

I DD has one which I use

I DD likes it. Only trouble I she has is that, like many tablets, it doesn't support .... erm ... adobe flash player? There are supposedly some work arounds but I've never managed to crack it. It means a fair few odds and ends don't work. Off the top of my head I think facebook games and iplayer but I would have to check to be positive. That instantly makes laptops / windows devices far superior to me - I would much rather have one device where everything just worked

Geeky DS has one and loves it.

duckyfuzz · 29/11/2013 22:08

Dtds have one each and love them, but for not much more you could get iPad mini which is better

DD2 is getting one for Christmas, basic set up very easy and the screen is beautiful. Haven't dared play with it much as it's not mine.

PoshPaula · 29/11/2013 22:11

I have one, love it.

DS hates Apple.

RedPencils · 29/11/2013 22:14

DS has got one and its fab. I managed to get Flash to work on it but its a bit hit and miss and they are no longer support flash. It's only a problem for a few games.
I player definitely works on it.

We bought it last year, and it got much better reviews than the iPad mini.

ouryve · 29/11/2013 22:16

iPad mini is not better. I have an iPad mini and DH has the old Google nexus (which is now about £130) and his is definitely faster. iPad has the better screen, but the new google nexus screen matches up well in all but size.

ouryve · 29/11/2013 22:17

And DH has just confirmed that flash was abandoned at around Android 4.1.

I have one and love it. Iplayer works and you seem to be able to download programmes now which you couldn't before.

Got the old Nexus 7 and love it. Use it for note taking etc and is very handy because you can then store all your notes on Google Drive.

DP is a SL at university and trialled giving them to undergraduates for their course. Most found them really helpful but some said they would have preferred the Nexus 10 because being students they are carrying big bags around anyway so the compact nature of the 7 doesn't make much difference really.

I have one. When it's good it's great although it's a pain in the arse to type on. It's had to go back to asus twice as it's got stuck on the x screen, no idea why but it's quite common.

My husband bought it from pc world, it broke within a month and pc world wouldn't do anything, just sent me away with asus' telephone number.
To be fair it's been fine for a few months but it it breaks again I'd get either a kindle fire or a iPad mini, I have a laptop and an iPhone so don't really rely on it.

NoComet · 29/11/2013 22:30

Don't get a fire, mine drives me mad. Everytime you want anything a bit different it's not available for the fire.

The browser is slow and the spell checking options hopeless if you are dyslexic.
